Trying to hook up my land pride blower for the first time, first time for any pto for that matter. Everything seems to match up but the connection only slides on halfway then seems to hit a hard stop. It has an air hose type connection with 3 ball bearings and ive tried to retract the ring to get it to slide on but no luck so far. Am I just old and weak or am I missing something??? Thanks!!

Well if you got it on part way it will go the rest,, sometimes something like WD40 sprayed on the new parts will let the mate a bit easier, and on some pto shaft connectors you realllllly have to pull them back some you just give a little twist and pull back,, look inside the coupler and see if the balls are all the way retracted when you pull the outer ring back if not shoot some WD 40 in there too might be some grease that's gotten hard,, you have the right idea, they can be a real PIA to get on some times,, and make sure the splines are all lined up too
And welcome to the orange

Hi your on the right track, try spraying some wd40 or something similar around the ball bearings. They are not retracting enough to allow the shaft to go far enough on. Work the ring back and forth to maybe free it up a bit. You don't mention if it's a new or used unit.Sometimes they're just a PITA to get hooked up. Barry

I bought a used bushhog that I could not get to slide on past the balls. I took it apart and cleaned the coupler and still no luck. Turns out someone had it apart before me and put the spring in backwards and that let the balls "almost" drop down far enough. If they don't go all the way down it don't slide on.

The collar style yokes are absolute junk in my not so humble opinion.

Designed to save the sheeple from them foolish selves.

Don't feel old about it.

I agree Thanks to OSHA
On using penetrating oil I'd suggest PBBlaster or Kroil not WD40

I second the taking it apart cleaning it and greasing it up.
They are very tight tolerance to get on, old grease and dirt will make the collar hard to slide and stop it from going on completely.

Yep..... my Landpride bushhog is a real pain to couple up! I've taken to wiping the spline down every time and lubing it. I've been waiting 4 years for it to loosen up but it's not happened yet!

I'm glad I'm not the only person to have this problem with my landpride cutter. I was beginning to think I was just getting old and weak! Keeping it clean and well greased does seem to help but it can be a real pain.

I got it to go thanks for the help. I flushed with wd40....used a 1" brush to get all the grit and grime out, then hosed it with some PB and the ball bearings were like they were floating in butter. I figured I had it licked. Got it in position halfway on pried that collar with my boney old fingers and figured it would slide right on......nope....same problem (floowed by bad words.....or....as my kids used to call it....."camping language" after many memorable struggles with a pop up camper)

Then instead of trying to pull back the collar and pull with my fingers...ibused one hand to grab the main shaft and give a PUSH....much to my shock it just popped right on....I can see where one person pulling that collar back and the other pushing on the shaft mght be helpful.....now that thing is on there til spring ( I hope)

I do have one more question though, that knuckle has what LOOKS like a grease fitting that comes out at a 45, but it wont take grease and looking at it best I can see and feeling it, theres no inlet....its like a fake grease fitting....does that make sense? The pto shaft has a worn picture of an oil can with words "min every 1100 mins" as I recall. I was thinking this meant LUBE i. e. grease, or does that knuckle actually get OIL (same at the other end of the shaft I believe )

Sounds like the grease zerk check ball is also stuck, it should unscrew and then you can clean out the old grease out of it and the hole.

If that does not work replace the grease zerk. They are cheap and easy to remove and replace. And yes, it takes grease, not oil. Also, there is another grease zerk on the other end of the drive shaft. Don't forget to grease that one too. In fact, make sue that all zerks are lubed. One pump of the handle on your grease gun should be all they need.
