First Service @50hrs bx1880

Regarding the HST, the manual is suggesting only changing the filter at 50hrs. I have read some posts about silicone in the strainer.
The HST first recommended fluid change is at 400hrs. Is it a waste to change it before and if not, what would be a reasonable hr rating to do it at?

Waste???? NO.............you can pull that strainer and cork it - and clean it and place it back without loosing a lot of fluid! Even if you change the filter and clean the screen, leave the fluid- that will be much better than changing at 400 hours.

I didn't change my fluid only the filter at 50 hours. It's 2 years old and still only has slightly less than 100 hours. It's gonna take me a long time to hit 400 hours. It's still pretty and clean now. I will probably follow a 4 year or 400 hour schedule.

I just did my 50 hr service on my BX1880. (at 51.3 hrs...shhhh) I changed the engine and hydro oil and filters and cleaned the screen. After cleaning the screen. I was happy I changed the hydro oil too....just to be safe !!

Plus its gonna take me like 3+ years to hit 400 hours...seemed a long time for the initial oil to be swishing around in there. But that was just my thought. Also, now I know exactly what fluids are in the tractor.

this is my strainer on 2370 at almost 90 hours. I did hydraulic filter at 50 and very little oil leaked. But drained all fluid out and changed oils in process. If having to drain them out. Try to lock tractor up on blocks or someway to slide oil container to catch old oils with. Had newer one thar held 4 gallons but it was 2” too thick to catch hydraulic oil. Older one thin enough but only holds at best 1.5 gallons.

Thanks for the advice. When you say cork it what did you actually use to plug it. Im not sure on the hole size once the strainers removed and after its removed isnt the time to start searching for things

Whether to change hydraulic fluid or not at 50 hours is a hot topic.
I did change mine, and glad I did....

The BX 80's operators manual only lists changing only the hydro filter at the first 50 hours but the Service manual shows changing the oil, filter and cleaning the screen at the first 50-hour service.

The BX1880, BX2380 and BX2680 are the same manuals.

All I can tell you is, in the maintenance section of my owners manual, it clearly indicates to change the fluid, filter, and clean the screen @ 50 hrs, for the hydro. I don't have a service manual.

I changed mine at 50 along with the filter. My screen was completely gummed up with what appeared to be sealant. I did a post on here called BX2380 50 Hour, Lessons Learned. You can search it and see pictures.

Whitetiger - seems when I bought my BX2360 five years ago, there was a mention here on OTT about a change in the OPS manual about the 50 hour service...new OPS manuals said filter only.
The WSM says filter and fluid for BX 80’s....
Personally, I think 50 hour Fluid change is important, and did it for my BX2360.
Interesting that 80 series brings it back in the WSM, but not OPS...

Update:

I dropped the transmission fluid at 58 hrs and it looked like new. The strainer was clean as well. I changed the hydro filter, and refilled with Kubota oil.
Could I have just changed the filter in hind site?- yes - would I have doubted it - yes, so for 110.00 in fluid it's good piece of mind and now I'm fine for 400Hrs.

What I did find though was the dipstick on the front axle didn't have any oil on it when I checked it (the axle was level). I even put my finger in the hole to try and touch oil, no luck, yet the dealer had signed off "OK" on the cap that it was checked. At 58 hrs how could it have been that far down with no visible signs of leaks? It's stored in a garage and again no leaks on the floor.

I pulled the drain plugs on each side and I did get maybe 1.5L -2L of fluid total so I think there was adequate lubrication on gearing and seals... It was just upseting it was that low and marked "OK". Now it's changed and registering properly on the dipstick .

Same thing happened to me... I could barely see any fluid on the dipstick the first time i checked it..I can't remember the capacity of the front axle off the top of my head, but I wanna guess I put 3/4 of a quart in the thing to bring to level.
