First Kubota, first hydraulics and big issue already

Recently bought a new BX1880 with FEL, MMM and quick attach everything. I added the quick attach on from what was available. I've never run hydraulics and never had a diesel either. I have 8 hours on the machine. Yesterday I removed the MMM as I needed to use the FEL in some swamp/wet area and after getting the MMM stuck, it was faster to take off the MMM than to get stuck again. After I was done, I took of the FEL and then went to put the MMM back on, but I was so tired that I left it off and put everything in the garage. In the morning I went to put on the MMM and saw that I had not put the hydraulicds down and found a small pool of oil (hydraulic fluid?) on the side of the tractor mid way between the front and back wheels. Got a light and could not finde the source of the leak. Checked the oil and it was fine and then checked the hydraulic fluid.....low. After putting in a gallon of fluid it was back to normal, put on the MMM and tested the machine and all is fine.

after 8 hours why is the fluid down a gallon? because I took of the FEL? Shouldn't be, as it is a closed system on the FEL. I had never checked the hydraulics before and I believe the tractor was delivered that way, as the response on the hydraulics was super fast after I put in the fluid, not sluggish as it had been, but I thought that was normal, as I never used hydraulics before. I'm thinking I should call the dealer, as the salesman was a problem on the sale but the service manager made all things right, or did he?

I believe the small pool of oil is hydraulic fluid, but is that because I did not unload the system after I shut off the tractor last night?

Thoughts??

A gallon on the floor would be a HUGE mess. How big was the spot?
I don’t take my fel off, but when disconnecting remotes there will be some leaking immediately afterward. Hazarding a guess, I would say (2) remotes would leave maybe a 3-4” circle on concrete if not caught.

it was at the very most about 2 TBS to 1/8 of a cup, if that. I don't believe the dealer filled up the hydraulic fluid compartment before he sold it to me. From now on, I'll check oil and HF before I ever start the tractor.

Still don't know where that little puddle of HF came from. I was also surprise at how dark the oil was for the engine compartment, very dark compared to regular truck engine oil. Perhaps diesel oil is darker than truck 20-50W??

Yes, diesel engine oil will be darker that gasoline engine oil after use.

Also, be sure you are adding the correct fluid to your hydraulic system.

It's normal for the oil to be dark, it's just the way these are.

As far as the leak, it's not uncommon for a Quick Disconnect fitting to hang a little and seep some out, quite normal.
Keep and eye on any new drips/puddles and check the fluid often.

When my tractor was delivered, the driver went over all fluids to show how to check them and also to show that everything was correct.

While it may have taken a little time for him to do it, it stopped any questions of lack of dealer service thus warding off any blow back or liability down the road.

My B2650 was a bit low on hydro fluid when I used it a few hours, I assumed it was because the fluid had to get through the system. It was not dangerously low, not past the lower mark on the stick. I added about a quart or so to get it into the middle of the stick. The dealer probably did not get enough fluid into your system. The delivery guy did go over the machine with me and we did look at the fluid levels and if I recall the hydro stick showed above the lower line. Since adding fluid it has not changed levels getting close to 100 hours.

My BX2380 was a quart low on the front axle when I got it. It really does pay to look them over closely on delivery.

Well I’m in Fiji now but my wife said the dealer came and picked up the BX so they could look it over. They have had it for a week now.

Now wait one second!!!! How did you manage to get to Fiji without the misses???

Just asked my wife if I could make it to Fiji without her going with me. She had some pretty colorful things to say, including me needing to be worried about the condition of my Tractor when I got home

Well it goes like this..... we have 10 acres on the Coral Coast and two weeks ago I got a call that sai I had to be in Fiji before April 12 as our container was in New Zealand from Boston. I’m here to get the container and rough it as our house is not complete and the misses does not like to “camp”. So I’m here. Just experienced my first Cat 3 cyclone, damn windy things!!
