My 1st vehicle was a 1953 Dodge with a flat head 6 and fluid drive tranny. My 1st car was a 1966 mustang notch back 289ci with a holley 500 2 barrel carb.

1970 GTO Judge, 455- V8 with Ram Air, 4 on the floor Hurst Shifter, it had 15k miles on it. I was the second owner and paid $1800.00 for it, the care insurance was greater per year than the cost of the car. First owner was 50+ years old and it got away from him on his first snowy road and he sideswiped some guard rails, after having it repaired he decided it was too much car for Vermont winters. I do not know the MPG it got I just remember it not passing many gas stations if you even thought of putting your foot in it. Took my dad for a ride in it and at 110 MPH in third gear he told me that was fast enough. From that day forward he politely requested I sell it, saying he did not want a phone call I was wrapped around a tree. Six months after the purchase I sold it for near what I paid for it, and never did get a speeding ticket. Between gas and insurance I really could not afford it. The day I sold it my Dad gave me gave me a big hug and not a word was spoken. You just know when you have please a parent. The second car the other end of the spectrum, a 1970 VW Bug, it was a fun car once you got beyond the interior frost bite during Vermont winters. From there it has been multiple new 4X4 trucks in GMC, Chevy and Dodge the only regret, the one and only 1989 Ford F-250.

1981 Plymouth Champ that I went in halves with my parents. Then bought on my own 1986 Plymouth Turismo, and sold the champ to my brother.

In 1969 when I was discharged from the Navy, I bought a used ***8216;65 Impala Sport Coupe with a 283 ;three on the tree***8221; for $900. I still have it. Did a body off resto mod, with a 406 SBC, 4 speed and 12 bolt posi.

Ok, we need pic's of that and lot's of them. If I had the coin the OL and I would be cruisin in that. The only car in which we both like red interior but black is good also.:D

Cost me the complete salary. As custom combine driver of a six weeks seasan,
5250 DM deutsch marks,
I had it six weeks, then tried it on the first snow and turned it round to ly on the roof,
But repaired it again, cost only a windscreen and one head light...

The first car I wanted to buy was a ford mustang, I always liked the sound of the engine and the looks were very cool. I worked for several years, saved up money for this car and achieved my goal. Eventually, I bought a 1972 Ford Mustang, a great car with a powerful engine. Back then there were no problems with gas prices and you could afford to drive a muscle car with a big engine. 1955 Chevy. Bought for $75 without battery or carburetor. Rebuilt the engine, dechromed it ad painted it red. Had it for a couple of years.

My first car? That was in '90 ( when I was 26): a '79 Chevy Monte Carlo, version for the European market with orange turn signals. Buick 231 CID V6, 6,500 (!) real miles, AC, auto, CC, power seat and windows, tinted windows, split bench with crushed velours, gage package etc. Parked since '81, bought from the original owner's estate.

Cost: at the time, the equivalent of $500 (+/- $1,133 today). A few years ago, a friend gave me the original sales brochure ("See what's new today in a Chevrolet"), showing the exact same car (wheel covers, colors and equipment).

Still have it, although it's been sitting (in a dry garage!) since August '95. Must be the very last surviving one in Belgium, and certainly the only one that will hit the road again.

Last year I gave it to my nephew/godson, who is a car fanatic and takes evening mechanics' classes for fun. We have an agreement: I buy the spares (mechanical parts are easy, body parts quasi-impossible to obtain) and he brings the car back to life (extensive overhaul/replacement of all systems), which is slowly happening). With a bit of luck, we'll be able to start it this coming winter.

Here's how it looks today. I do have the original stainless wheel covers, safely stowed away.

First one I really paid for myself was a 64 Chevelle in 1967. 283 4bbl. 4 speed and a bench seat. From there things escalated much like tractor ownership has :)

First one I bought was a '72 Datsun 240Z. It's currently sitting in the mancave waiting on me to have time to restore her. Anyone have or know of a parts source. Maybe your relative that has one sitting in a barn they'd like me to haul off for them ;)

I bought my 1st car in 1970, a SAAB Sonnet. It had a Ford 1500cc V4 industrial engine, all 65hp of it. The car weighed about 1900lbs, all fiberglass. I promptly found a 1700cc (stroked the next year) in a wreck and modded it to about 130hp. Motocrossed that car every weekend but because it was modded I was in an unlimited class and never could really compete. Used to shear a key in trans once a month. The good news is I could lift out that motor myself, take the tranny to a SAAB dealer and for $15 he would replace the key.

The first vehicle I purchased myself was a 1990 Ford Ranger XLT, 5 speed, extended cab, new from the dealership. Taxes, title and everything, I walked out of the dealership for just under $10,000.

We had it for 10 years and my wife learned to drive a stick on it. We traded it in on a 1999 Ford Ranger, which we still have and drive every day. It is the truck my wife takes to work.

Well, cheating here a little, this is the 2nd car I bought in 1972. It wasn't a great car to drive but it sure looked awesome. A 1972 De Tomaso Pantera, marketed by Ford and sold through Lincoln Mercury dealers. It came with a mid engine Ford 351W and a ZF quick change transaxle.
I built a serious but streetable 351C CJ for it from the bare 4 bolt block on up. The way it was geared it was slow off the line but had a top speed over 150 (don't ask).

A friend of mine and I looked at one at a dealership one Saturday morning. My comment at the time was, "if it was a little less $$$ ($9k) I'd buy it". That night I won a car in a raffle. Took cash instead of the car and bought the Pantera.

Old thread! :) But timeless I suppose...

My first vehicle was a motorcycle...

My second vehicle was a motorcycle...

My third vehicle was a motorcycle...

Summer and winter...it was a motorcycle...snow and ice...it was a motorcycle. I was quite good at bouncing along on the road surface sometimes...with my bike somewhere in the vicinity...doing the same.

My first 4 wheel vehicle was a small passenger van, bought (at age 25) after getting married and while living in Japan...

Guess at heart I am not a car guy...LOL

Mine was dark green that I repainted Venetian red with metallic extracted and high sparkle inserted.
