We spent the time between Christmas and New Years at the Cabin sorta relaxin', hunting, and there is always work. I had several 'blow down' trees across roads/trails that needed removing soooo....

I felled and skidded them out.

Yup, what a mess.

Bucked and ready for splitting.

I split all of the rounds that were over ~8".

The first trailer load came home last evening. I'll get it unloaded and stacked this week and go back for the rest maybe this weekend. This is all next year's firewood. I have sawmilling to do this week.

Very nice. You can never have too much firewood.

Magic - - that "mess" picture looks perfect in my book!

I used to cut 100 face cords (~33 full cords) of firewood each year, along with another 20-50 cords of pulpwood.

It's a lot of work, but very gratifying when done. I don't cut much anymore, but miss it.

Good for you for a job well done! (y) (y)

We broke an all time record yesterday with 85 degrees and today it is 36 degrees and falling. Air conditioner yesterday and a fire in the insert today.

Magic - - While I was MUCH younger at the time, my favorite temperature for wood cuttin' was 30 dgrees F.

Could work in a tee-shirt if the wind wasn't blowing.

Heck, a swing from 85 to 36, would have got me from damn near nekked to a winter coat.... :)

Yup, 32 degrees now and still falling. We even saw a few flurries for about 5 minutes.

It's forecast to be ~28 degrees in the morning and I will be sawmilling.

EDIT: Well I fat fingered that one. Not -28..... 😲

In the past I managed to find a couple saw mills and pick up the edge slab they cut off. One year I brought home at least 15, 8 foot bed truck loads, stacked as high as I could stack it, good thing I had booster springs on the GMC. I dont know how much I had but I burned almost 2 years off that stuff. Wish I could find another one to get it for free

In my last picture above of the loaded trailer, the right side and most of the center is sawmill edging.
