On my place I have primarily 4 species: tamarack(larch), paper birch, lodgepole and aspen. There is a smattering of ponderosa pine and grand fir. I mostly harvest trees that are oddly shaped or have signs of stress. I prefer tamarack and birch. Handiest thing I have on my B2601 is a back blade. I welded a 2" receiver on to it. I have a dump trailer to drag around. I select a tree, drop, limb and cut into 8' lengths. I can drop the trailer, load the logs with the forks, grab the trailer and dump the logs at my firewood area. The logs are 2 years out and they get loaded on a rack for a year then cut into firewood lengths and stacked for a year. For winter operation I load firewood in the trailer and park it close to the house.
