If you have a FEL these IBC totes are cheap and work great for me.

I found totes with clean plastic liners. I drilled 3" holes in the bottoms for ventilation and cut the tops to be used as lids. Keeps all the wood dry and out of the elements. I stack my totes two high. The totes are designed to go three high if you have them on a good concrete base.

I would look on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and see what is available nearby. I bought a wagon that had ben converted from and old corn picker (I was told). The thing is super strong with large wheels and will last a lifetime. I paid $200 for it . If that doesn't appeal to you Harbor Freight offers inexpensive wagons as well. Good luck.

One of the cheapest ways to build a trailer is to start with a rolling chassis from a small, cheap camper. An ex-girlfriend left her crappy old tandem axle camper on my property a few years ago, so I demolished the rot ridden, leaking, ugly pile of junk and tore it down to a really decent rolling chassis with a 2-5/16" coupler. It even has electric brakes. If size and weight were an issue, I could easily cut it down to a single axle. You can find a rolling chassis for a few hundred on places like Craiglist.

I use it to store material off the ground and roll it around as needed. One day I plan on turning it into a rolling chicken coupe.

The mesh floor is junk!
I added a 4' x 8' x 3/4" piece of plywood, marine epoxy coated.

Smart move.

I added wooden floors on both of mine as well.

These two handle most of the small hauling/moving chores around the property and trips into town to pick up small items (gas/diesel cans, feed, bags of concrete, etc...that don't require my larger trailers).

But if used to tow behind a vehicle....I recommend installing a couple of driveway markers or flags so you can see what you are doing when backing such short trailers. You literally can't see the shorter one without the tailgate.

Look at this 5'x8' trailer that's up for sale near me. Only $900 so maybe your favorite online marketplace is worth checking out. This one has a piece of sheet metal for the floor or so it seems. That's a good deal for someone I'm sure.

I use the totes and that’s the best solution I have found for stacking and moving wood. However, loaded, the weigh about 1200-1500 pound.

Don’t know if you use the plastic tanks or not, but I cut them and use them for covers to keep the wood dry.
I do not use the bladders. I purposely buy them without bladders due to the possible toxicity of the various resins and chemicals they typically contain.

If I could find some that contained food products, that would be a different story though.

Yep. If your FEL won't lift them, your 3PH might. But a steep hill might be a show stopper.

It sure works well for me, though. Wood gets tossed in right from the splitter. Tractor moves it to storage area. When it's needed, tractor moves it up by the house for use. Empties go back near the splitter.

And the bottles (the plastic part) make a great roof. No tarping.

That sounds exactly the same as my set up. Great minds think alike I guess.

The ones I get are usually contained a non-toxic ink and they have been cleaned when they are emptied. I don’t use the oil, transmission fluid, etc. good point though for people thinking about using this method.
