Finish Mower Tires

Have a new this year LP FDR1660 finish mower with the standard solid tires.

Probably used the thing 6 times on a 1 acre lawn...5 hours total. Noticed yesterday when washing it off there is a small chunk of tire missing on the edge of one of the tires. The other 3 tires seem good. It's only been on grass (and crossing a gravel driveway occasionally). A $3k machine with such low hours..I don't expect the tires to be show any signs of wear. Likely will ask the dealer for a replacement.

Anyone have experience on how durable these tires are?

On my last Woods, I changed the wheels/tires out at ten years only because the bearings they used are not roller but solid bushing type and eventually just started to wobble out the hubs. When I sold it at the 20 year mark to buy a wider mower, the second set of tires were still good. The only real tire wear was from having bent a bracket causing the tire to wear on one side. After I straightenEd the bracket, there was no further noticeable tire wear. I have some pine trees with exposed roots that I happened to snag when I was turning around causing the bracket damage. So now, I raise the mower in that area.

I have similar small chunks removed on 2 of the tires. However, I mow about 10 acres and some of the land was cleared two years ago with a forestry mulcher and has some rough spots.

Hard to say how it got damaged. I assume you've greased it real good and that there's NO binding on the swivel or axle ??

I'd be surprised if that was covered under warranty.

Not sure why it chipped out. The tires and swivels spin very freely. I am thinking the rubber material isn’t the best. Chinese manufacture I believe.
