Hello!

So I got a new 42 inch tiller for my l1500. It is shear pin protected. The implement shaft is slpined. The shear pin is not 1/2 inch like on a brush cutter pto. It's very small grade 8.8 bolt on the yoke of the pto shaft. Maybe 5/16th.

Anyhow the tiller is very close to my tractor. It's 21.5 inches from end of implement shaft to end of tractor pto because I have an over running clutch on the tractor pto. I ended up cutting my pto shaft too short and now I need a new one. I called the tiller mfg and the pto shaft price is insane. Like 300 dollars or something. I'm not sure if they quoted me the right part..... anyhow I don't know what this type of pto shaft is to get a new one.

The end looks like this and I can't find figure out what to search for to find it.

Check tractor supply or similar store. They may have a better price :)

Can't you just weld it back together? Find some tubing that either fits inside or outside of the shaft to line it up and give additional strength.

Might be easier to advise if a picture was available of the shaft, and then one of the tiller behind the tractor.

Yea I usually order from agrisupply. I got a series 4 pto shaft with smooth end for brush hog for 80 dollars and it's been fine.

Even if a new one of these shafts was double that I could understand but not understanding tsc and all charging 250-300 for a series 4 shaft.

Anyhow Just ordered some new tubing and roll pins from agrisupply.
Going to bang out the roll pin. Drill the new one and cut it right this time.

Gave me an excuse to buy some roll pin punches.

Tractor Supply is trying to hit a home run on everything they sell. 1 gallon of universal power steering fluid was 8.99 all summer. My store was just reset and the new price is 16.99. Went to another store and paid 8.99.

Like another member said, Agri Supply is a very good source for PTO shafts, yokes, and U joints. Typically around 1/2 the price that tractor supply charges.

Why not just add a longer piece of tubing on female end of pto shaft. I done this to several(short) shafts over the yr's with no problems. One needs to be sure to keep yokes in correct time(phase) but that's not difficult. At 540 rpm's no balancing of shaft is required.
