What do you all take out for the bushy tail rats? My current favorite is a 10/22 variant with a silencer.

That looks like a nice one. I'd probably use my PCP Benjamin Marauder in .25. But, I haven't been squirrel hunting in over 30 years.

That’s a beaut you have there…that would look good on my rack! I Take these in this order…at top is a ruger 77/22 bolt action. 2nd is what was my grandfathers first gun (so I was told)which was a Winchester model 69-22, and third is a H and R topper model 158 (from my dad that was first 12gu shotgun from him) Generally I just use the ruger. It’s a replica of my hunting rifle although a different caliber, but same size and weight general and feel of the action so it’s great to practice with squirrels. Anyway those are what I use for squirrels. The gun rack my dad built when he was in school and is the only gun rack I ever new at my grandparents farm. Their memories now but still in use. All my grandparents have passed and my dad passed earlier this year. 🥃

I don't generally hunt them.....as I don't really care for Squirrel (tree rats) as table fare.

But occasionally I have to thin them out when they become too numerous and sit around spinning corn out of my game feeders.

To that end....I snipe them from 100 yds out with my CZ-455 in .17 HMR.

I have a breach cock .22 air rifle. Squirrel, rabbit, and even a few skunks last year. With good pellets the thing is a beast

My 10/22 started out as a plain Jane 50 anniversary model with a hard wood stock. I've done the following:
  • Replaced barrel with a E.R. Shaw bull barrel
  • Replaced the trigger group with a Ruger BX-22 upgrade now it's a nice crisp 2lb pull
  • Replaced the stock with a Hogue and a stainless thumb take down screw. & Sling
  • Topped it off with a Burris 3~9x40mm rimfire scope.
I love this thing - shooting sub-sonic ammo with the guardian suppressor it's awesome.

I'm taking it out Saturday I'll post a pic of any tree rats I get with it.

FX Dreamlite Compact in 22 caliber. Usually bag 30-50 each season to keep them under control. It's so quiet I just pop one right after the other. Love it.

You really don't even need a rifle with the correct bird feeder and a well hung squirrel.

Marlin 795 plain Jane utility grade. Got it as a trainer for my son when he was learning to shoot in preparation for deer hunting with a Remington 700 .308. A lot cheaper and easier on the shoulder than running hundreds of rounds through the .308. Set it up with a scope with the same type BDC reticle as the .308. Had no plans to use it for anything else, but turns out it’s a fun little gun to shoot and is a fine squirrel gun for the 30 to 50 yard shots we routinely have.

Also sometimes my old Remington 870 Magnum Express. If it’s population control instead of dinner time, it’s usually the 870 with a turkey choke and 4, 5, or 6 shot.
