"It takes a little longer but saves a lot of time." A friend used to say this jokingly. One time a farmer was telling how a tractor driver would spike a wheel brake to turn on the end to go down the next six rows. He tore up the rear end. This saying came to mind. How many years of turning fast were wasted while the tractor was in the shop? I also think about the saying when I see a tractor laying on it's side or things broken from going too fast.

There is a lot of truth to that, though. Doing something right the first time does take a little longer- the reason to take a shortcut is to save time. And, if you have to do it over, you consume more time than it took to do it right the first time. It goes hand in hand with "An ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure".
