True - gotcha - but with a cathedral ceiling, the living space ceiling is fastened directly to the rafters. No attic at all.
Sheepfarmer has a pine ceiling attached to her rafters for the full length, as I understand it.
Jamb the space between the roof sheathing and the ceiling with fiberglass insulation, then air doesn't move along the underside of the roof sheathing, which is what you're after, especially in Michigan, where sheepfarmer is from.
Again, probably not the only issue there, but could be helped next time the roof sheathing is replaced. Absent venting, the sheathing and roof won't last their entire publicized useful life.
