Has anyone replaced their Kubota fan with one that has more blades to increase air flow? I thinking about one from air-conditioned compact? Any comment/suggestion?

The pitch of the blades has more to do with air flow than # of blades. Is your rig getting hot? you may need to look into what is making it hot(and not the weather, most of these machines can operate all day in 110*f heat).

I have considered it but never done research to get the right one. Good idea though.
Let us know what you do.:D

If the original blades have been rubbed any at all the effective length is shorter resulting in less surface area of the blades and less air flow. My tractor overheated with less than 1/4 inch missing from the ends. When I put the new blades on this thing the air difference was very noticeable. The new blades push so much air that it is forced under the dash and out the back side under the steering wheel.

I have found mine to run 150° or less with the radiator level full within 1/2" from the top when just moving boats around. I haven't really worked it hard yet like tilling, grading etc. If the water level is lower than this the temp will rise to 180°   It is so surprising that a 30° temp increase can happen with such a small change in water level of the radiator but since these L175's don't have a water pump it needs full water all the time!!!!!

The point here is that the water level changed the temp faster than the difference in air flow.

Amazing to hear a low coolant level raises the temp. by 30 degrees.
Gotta keep the rad screen as well.
Having a battery up against back side of the rad doesn't help with airflow.

I don't like the battery right in front of the radiator but there is no other place in this small tractor for it. It is visible through the front grille too so I used some perforated metal behind the grille to hide the battery.

The air is vented well around the hood and battery and as best I can tell there is no restriction in air flow.
As I understand the fan blades, the outter edge that makes the largest diameter of rotation is where the majority of the air is pushed from. Any rubbing of the ends of the blades will diminish flow very fast.

Yes, the screen MUST be kept clean too.

I don't like the situation of having no temp guage either so I installed one in this tractor so I can see what is going on in this coolant system. ;)

Might i ask where you tapped the block for your sending unit?
I've heard of using the radiator, but i'm not playing with the thin metal....

thank you

I'm not sure if it will fit, but I seem to recall that the electric fan from one of the Ford SHO Taurus is what people were recommending when switching fans into Jeep Cherokees.

In all actuallity though, if your fan is still good but the tractor is overheating, I would clean the cooling system first. It made a world of difference on my L175. Last year every time I ran the tractor when the ambient temp was over eighty five degrees, I lost water out of the overflow, this year I can run it with the temps at 100 degress and haven't lost any coolant yet.

Gotta remember an L175 is over 30 years old, probably on its third or fourth owner, and none of the previous owners were familiar with how clean a thermo syphon cooling system has to be kept.
