Hey All,

I need some advice. Like a big dummy when I bought my tractor new in Oct 2016 I didn't get a SSQA but now I want want one so I can add a grapple easily. My tractor - L3901 HST 4X4 , LA 525, with 46 hours. My local dealer has a 2013 L4600DT 4X4, LA764 SSQA with 156 hours.

What do you think a fair trade would be?

Thanks guys,
EZ

Why not just add a 2 pin Quick detach. Lots cheaper. ATI makes one for your tractor.

You aren't going to like the DT, it has a clutch, your HST is much better and longer lasting without a huge repair bill.

Why don't you just add the SSQA to your loader, it's not like the loader is different, it's a simple swap from a pin on setup.

What your trying to do, sounds like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I was just thinking about additional HP and lift capacity (nearly 500lbs more). The loader is a 764 vs 525. The dealer quoted $4000 to add SSQA, hydraulics, and heavy duty grapple to my L3901. Then I would have buy a quick attach bucket or get a plate welded to mine. I just thought if the trade price was fair I might go that route. I know the machine is 3 years older (pre EPA stuff too) but only 100 more hours.

To me all that makes sense. So it makes no sense to trade just to get SSQA, there's other ways to do that.

But to get SSQA, more lift, more HP, and a grapple thrown in, then yeah, that makes sense, particularly if you don't want to spend to add those things to your existing tractor. As you say, the obvious tradeoff is you're getting an older machine with more hours, and moving from HST to gear shift. I personally wouldn't do it, but it all comes down to how you value those things relatively - I like HST too much to give it up, and I'd find the $4K to upgrade my existing. But other people value things differently, and may not have $4K around to afford that.

Fair trade should be you paying next to nothing. Pre emissions or not on the L4600, your tractor is worth more with the HST. I would take a hard look at the gear drive and see if thats what you want before proceeding.

I would just consider adding the SSQA to your current setup as well. 4K isnt a big deal IMO.

My new BX2380 is the first HST tractor I have owned. I won’t buy another gear drive. I bought it with SSQA. My Ford 1720 is gear drive. No more than I use it and the fact it is very low hours I don’t see the need to trade up. I may go ahead and spend the $1800 and add a WR Long 3rd valve kit and a SSQA to it so some of the attachments will interchange with the BX. I would update the tractor you have to SSQA. Can you do some of the work yourself? I added the land pride 3rd valve kit to my BX. I had never done one before. I didn’t have any problems. Check with Messicks and see what they quote to sell you the parts needed. My land pride 3rd valve kit came from them. A little bit shipping but no tax. Everything Attachments has all the parts also and they build high quality Grapples. My Grapple is coming from them. No tax or shipping.

Thanks guys.. I just didn't realize there were many problems with DTs.

DTs are not problems. They are the original rugged machines. But they are not as handy doing FEL work if you've got a lot of forward/backward dirt-work, etc.
