Had a chance to spend some time running/cycling/using the system. It would engage the clutch, then it would quit, then it would engage again. This did not seem normal because it did not get cold when it was doing this. Took it out for a few miles and the clutch engaged and kept spinning and AC worked. Is there anything I can do to the clutch; lube, adjust, tighten, etc. or is it a replacement part/issue? Would low freon make it cycle prematurely? Not the end of the world but if it is simple I don't mind using a wrench.

Low pressure or too much pressure can make the system short cycle similar to what your seeing.

My f150 would do that when the system would get low on freon. Was able to top it up using jug of freon and a gauge set from the auto parts store.

Was able to bandaid it through a couple summers, then ended up putting it in the shop getting the system replaced. If I remember right, it was around $800 for parts and labor. That's replacing all the major components, compressor, condenser, pressure valves, ect.....

Exactly what my buddy just paid to have his redone.
A gauge to see what pressure is the place to start.
We have a mobile a/c service guy,did the repair in the driveway.
Stubborn though, i offered the shop and hoist and he refused.
