I've had my kubota for 3 months now and i have seen a few sparks fly out of my l-210 before just one or two once in a great while. today after putting my finish mower on and doing some passes to get it adjusted and used to it my l-210 then all a sudden shot sparks up out the stack. i idled down and more blow out like a cig out a car window on the interstate. the tractor sounded fine, idled fine, and ran normal back to the house. searched on here and also googled it. from the sounds of it all i did was heat the exhaust up enough to burn off built up carbon. but it still has me worried about my ol' girl. is this a common thing?

I would chek the compression. In order to have a soot build-up to catch fire and shower sparks, you have to see some regular exhaust smoke generally caused by incomplete combustion. I've never seen sparks in the exhaust. You should get it checked before fire season. A good idea is to wrap the exhaust in screen.

Has someone been nipping on the brandy this afternoon?  :D
The L-210 is about as old as they get, that wouldn't even be a teir 1 engine! ;)

I wouldn't worry about it too much about the sparks, it has what looks to be an aftermarket muffler and that coupled with the age leads to carbon build up, and when you pushed it and got it hot it lit up and cleaned it out.

as an update, i went out and ran it a bit earlier today, she started no glow and first revolution. smoked white a lil bit for a min or two. took it out into a field that has not been mowed for a season and wet, it impressed me on how far before it bogged down (only after the tires sunk).

soo, wolfman i think your right on this one, just finally heated her up and cleaned out some carbon, but man did it make me think she ate her rings.

Mine does that too every now and then. I have only noticed it running when it's getting dark, which isn't too often.
