If its a thing that uses def fluid i can understand why.
They don't have def, I think only the big new M's have def, but I thought my 3560 with Egr and dpf smelled kind of funny when it was new. Sort of sweetish smell. Very different from typical diesel smell. Haven't ever noticed any eye burning fumes. Has very little smell of any sort nowadays.

I am wondering if something is abnormal in Melvin's tractor? Does it smell like something is burning?

Something is wrong with it! You can stand right next to the exhaust and barely get a scent of this DPF systems. Sounds like it might be un-burnt fuel?

The only time mine has any noticeable odor is when it is regenerating. Have never had burning eyes either...even during extended runs in a relatively confined space.

Maybe some critter crawled up your pipe.

Sounds like it's not breathing right. Or over fueling. How's the air filter??

I agree with others.....something is amiss

Is this machine in a enclosed area when starting? Or is this burning occurring while operating?

Mine smells like new paint burning off something when it gets hot. This is only on start up. Having run diesels for so long I kind of miss the fumes from the older diesels once in a while

The exhaust fumes from my L3301 burns my eyes and stinks. :(
A bit more info on this would be helpful. How many hours? Has there been any major maintenance to the fuel system? Any white smoke or fogging from the exhaust when running cold? Is it difficult to start?

I was doing some general reading on diesels and came across a few different forums dealing with this issue. The fix seemed to be either the injector pump was out of time, or one or more injector(s) were bad, leaking fuel into the combustion chamber during the exhaust stroke, pushing raw fuel out with the exhaust. I'm not familiar with the L3301, but I'm trying to learn all I can about diesels, so any info you can give would be very helpful. ;)

Engine hours. 37.4, it has regenerated three times, no maintenance preformed on tractor, no white smoke, but is does smoke slightly when it emits the eye burning fumes. Yesterday, I worked it pretty hard digging out a big stump. So far today, the eye burning fumes and stink is gone, maybe it needed a good working.
