I keep seeing ads for Big Tex trailers on my local Craigslist. It actually kinda annoys me but anyway, Big Tex says in their ad you can either pick up their trailer in Texas, Georgia or Oklahoma as well as have it shipped right to your door.

http://richmond.craigslist.org/grq/3492986480.html
We have a Big Tex dealer here local thats who wanted $5400 so Im going to see what Kauffmans quoat is and go from there and in the mean time ill be looking for a good used trailer.

I use a dump trailer currently, although I have used a ramp trailer before. I can use the truck to carry the various FEL implements, then when I am on the job so to speak I can use both the dump trailer and the dump insert in the truck to haul and dump

Ill be using the trailer to haul my Grand L3830 with disc and other atachments and on ocasion the Cat D-4 . The D-4 is the reason I want a heavy duty trailer the other tractors never leave the ranch and if they do my nephew drives low bed for a local trucking company. I looked at 2 used trailers yesterday both border line junk one had been jack knifed and was tweaked pretty bad. I sent an e-mail to Kauffman trailers and theyll respond with a quoat on a new trailer. Thanks for all the info fellas and keep it coming.
A D4 is nearly 11,000 lbs at operating weight isn't it? A 14K GVW trailer is going to be maxed out after you add the trailer empty weight, spare tire, and chains.

I see a tire/axle upgrade available on the Kauffman website under their 16K trailer. Maybe that would do the trick. The non-deck-over trailers are too narrow for the D4 too. 6'6" between the fenders. The D4 is also 6'6" overall width, if the internet is accurate.

Our Kauffman weighs in at 5700 pounds, I believe. So, a 11,000 pound dozer is not going to work.

Eric, the trailer is 7' wide in the box (102" overall width) so there is plenty of width. The bucket hangs over the tailgate as that is how the best balance comes out with the weight of my filled tires and counterweight. The counterweight sits right up against the front of the box, and there is almost enough room to have the bucket inside the trailer, but not quite. Anyway, the tractor is nice and secure and if was not for general safety and the law, I doubt that it would go anywhere if it were not secured.

It is one of those lower height type dumps that have the D rings in each corner of the box, and that is how I secure the tractor.

At the time I bought the dump, I also had a 20' equipment trailer, so I opted for the shorter dump trailer, shoulda woulda coulda have opted for the two foot longer dump trailer!

I sold the equipment trailer as I normally need to haul dirt or stuff and dump it. With the equipment trailer it was just a dead head trip to get the machine out there and then return for the dump trailer. The L seres is still not tall enough to load my little 5 yard dump so I do find myself using the pickup dump and dump trailer normally, with the larger dump truck to just move loads from the quarry.

Here is a pic of my other tow vehicle, the bigger dump truck, which despite irs age gets a fair amount of short trip use, at least until recently. That is about a 14k load of gravel in the box, and yes, even it at its age is a automatic, and that was the way it came from the factory (six speed Allison MT40)

How's the search coming on an equipment trailer? Any luck so far, I'm curious to know what Kaufman had to say if they got back in contact with you.

Eric , Kaufamnn did get back with me they quoated me $3800 for the base unit 12000 lb trailer + $600 for delivery and then + any opitions I would need. I think in the end I would be paying the same if I went to a local dealer. Kaufmann does build a fine trailer. We have been camping for a week just got back so Ill be on the hunt for a trailer again this week. Ill send pics as soon as I pic something up ......Dan

Since I am contemplating this very issue right now, I am curious to know if/how your search for an equipment trailer turned out...

What are your needs for as far as a trail goes Dan? What tractor are you looking to haul on it and what do you using to pull a trailer with?

Well, we are still outfitting the new-to-us L2600. I'd like to get a bush hog, arena harrow, and other useful implements. So, it's not like I need to haul the tractor anywhere per se, other than to go and get the stuff I want-erm- need. :-D

Tow vehicle is our Cummins-powered 1998 Dodge 2500.

This thread made it look like to me that bcbull was on the tipping point between new vs. used, and I am curious which way he might have gone on it.
