Engine swap on L2501

Curious question, can you put a Kubota D1803-CR-E4-LB2 (33h.p.) engine, in a Kubota L2501 with a D1703-M-DI-E4 in it? Looking to see if I can swap it for a larger h.p. motor without a lot of finagling. Thanks for any advice! fonzie40

You probably could, but I'd remove the injection pump spacer instead. Note: I haven't done this, but it's temping to do sometime in the future.

I watched the beginning of that video and then I skipped to the end. My final thought was simply “ Gee, not even a shot of the engine running again?”

Granted, there may be other videos that he posted somewhere, but I don’t go to YouTube enough to know how to find them if there’s not a link offered which I didn’t see…

You would be much further ahead putting a turbo on what you have, and cheaper too!

He hasn't even done the 50 hour service at 70 hours. I'm not sure I'd want to void my warranty like that.

Is your motor in some way broken? If you're replacing it anyway, then sure, look at a more powerful one. If not, then turbo is definitely the way to go.

I also think you can push up the revs on the engine (if your PTO implement isn't too upset about running a bit faster than 540rpm) and get quite a bit more power. With turbo or without.

how much time/money/effort it takes is to be seen

be advised your are asking about swapping a common rail engine onto a tractor that originally had mechanical injection. To make the common rail engine work, you're gonna have to do a lot of wiring and ecu stuff. Add a DPF too, to satisfy the ecu. Lines, hoses, fuel cooler, egr, and a whole bunch of other stuff. You're basically converting an L2501 to an L3301,

I see it as a LOT of work for 8 hp.

I would think that some L3301 owners might want to swap the other way (put mechanical engine on in place of the EFI engine)

Yup. With tractors it seems that if the tractor you want isn't quite what you want any more, by far the best path is to sell it and buy the tractor you want.
