Engine rebuild L1501 discrepancy

Everything I have read says the L1501 should have the Z751 engine. On mine, the tag on the injection pump says Z750. The air filter says Z751.

I bought an aftermarket rebuild kit for the Z750. When the machine shop pressed out the liners and went to press in the new liners, the outside diameter on new liners were .020" oversized. The inside diameter is the correct size to be machined out.

What should the outside dimension of the new liner be? Is there a difference between the Z750 and Z751?

Yes it should be a Z751, typo on the block? Is it STAMPED into the block,
you said 'tag', tags can be moved stamped data can not be.

The only difference seems to be 'what you are working on'.....

The tag saying it's a z750 is on the injection pump so the pump could have been swapped or maybe it was just really early in the production run and they were using up old parts. From what I could find searching the internet, it doesn't look like it really matters if it's a z750 or z751. My machinist said he could make the sleeves that came with the kit work and bore the block out a bit so the 0.020" larger sleeves would fit but that would ruin the block if I had to ever rebuild again. I'm hoping someone has the dimensions for what the OD of the sleeve should be and the bore in the block should be.

Cheap non OEM kits can have that issue, they just don't make the parts right.

Hopefully your engine rebuilder knows what he's doing, and they are truly oversized.

You need to read the stamped number on the block, It's on the flat next to the injection pump.

The old sleeve that was pressed out measured an OD of 3.132". the new sleeve measured 3.150". The only thing I could find searching the internet was someone on a board saying that the sleeve should be 0.004-0.006" larger than the counter bore in the block. My machinist told me he normally expects it to be only 0.002-0.004" larger. Since 0.018" is way bigger, I'm here hoping some has a spec on what the OD should be and what the bore in the block should be.

Thank you for the info on where the stamp in the block is. I will check that so I know exactly what I have.

I wish I didn't have to use an aftermarket kit but the difference in price was too much. If I put $750 into a $2500 tractor I still have a $2500 tractor. I can put $1200 into a $2500 and it's still worth $2500. The profit margins on a small farm are just not there to justify the expense.
