I have an older model Kubota L2850D 4X4 tractor. Recently went through an issue where engine would die when the clutch was released. I did a complete service (fluids, filters, and air cleaner). After draining the fuel tank, re-filling with new fuel and several attempts to bleed the fuel lines, the tractor now starts and runs fine. But when the PTO is engaged to operate a SQ160 Bush Hog the engine stalls and die. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

Until the recent issue with fuel, no problem operating the Bush Hog

What happens if the Hog IS NOT attached? Does it still die???? If so - then check the safety switch....if it DOES NOT die with the hog not attached then check the hog and see if the gearbox or something else is binding

Welcome to OTT Avirgo. Sure sounds like a bad safety switch.

About the only safety switches on that model inhibit the tractor from starting, they don't have anything to do with it running, in other words not interlocks like the PTO and seat switches. :D

With the tractor not running, PTO not engaged, try turning the PTO shaft, one way it should turn easy other it should also turn easy but click, that's the one way so all good.
Now tractor not running, engage the PTO, hold the clutch in and try and turn the shaft again, should still turn, with just a little more resistance and almost none the other way with it still clicking.
Now do the same as last with the clutch engaged it should not turn at all one way (well unless your superman and can turn the motor over via the PTO shaft) and the other way it should just click.
if it binds in any place that it should turn you have an internal gear problem.

Thanks, I have not had a chance to try that. I had to go to work, but will definitely try it and post the results.
