No one is saying EV's have to replace all vehicles. But for a whole lot of people who just putter around town to the shops and work and back, an ev might make sense. Less dependence on fossil fuels that fund terrorists is a good thing, cleaner air is a good thing.

If you don't drive more than 100 miles in a day, and you have a place to charge up overnight like a garage, you can save on fuel costs, emit less pollution, lessen your reliance on terrorists. Which of those are a bad thing?
The bad thing is believing everything that is written, there is an agenda to get the lemmings to follow.

Actually, some are making policy changes to strongly encourage that everyone needs to buy an EV by giving them an extra subsidy via tax break, and the industry subsidies.

EVs increase your electricity cost since you have to charge it, and at the point that there isn’t enough power available which is coming, the electricity cost will go even higher. Some grids are already overtaxed and have suggested times to charge EVs.

It’s hard to quantify what will make the air cleaner. We are 50 years into the EPA regulating car emissions. I doubt what the US does will make a significant impact as other countries aren’t playing by the same rules. Also, there are some emissions required to even produce the electricity.

Finally, we have the choice to be energy independent or not. Policy changes have artificially raised the fuel cost and increased our dependency on foreign oil.

I'm no fan of EV's, but some might be lack of information, disinformation or knowledge.

Mentioned it many times before, for many years I've been a Board member of Home - Northeast Classic Car Museum .

One of my colleagues on the Board is a retired Service Manager at GM dealerships.

Staunch GM muscle car guy in his 70's. Has some great cars and trucks. Real smart guy.

He drives a Chevy EV. I was literally shocked when I saw it - - no pun intended...;)
Was surprised an Old School Muscle Car guy would go EV....:rolleyes:

Lives a couple miles from town, all uphill in both directions in the snow, even in July. ;)

He's said how much the driving range changes with temperature, but he manages it easily since he's not driving far.

Don't hold me to specifics, but if I recall summer might be 120+ miles, while a cold winter morning might be as low as 30 miles.

Works for him and I have great respect for him.

Not sure I'm ready to jump in the pool though...

The real question here must be: What is the source/method used for electricity production, ....and how much is lost in transmission?
Is THAT all pollution free?

People change. ;). Maybe it was his wife's idea, but in any case, even he has to make excuses for it. That doesn't sound like the type of vehicle everyone should be forced to buy. But, hey, I'm fine with anyone buying whatever they want to buy.

Back to old muscle cars, in my experience most don't actually drive them very much since they are so valuable as a collectible.

I'm pretty sure we are doomed, even the electricity will likely depend on terrorists.

I can think of an instance where I'd want an EV. UTV. After driving one a little, I like the idea, I like the fact that they're pretty quiet, I like the fact that they have a decently good range (about 90 miles), and I like the fact...NO GAS. I'd own one, but I'd also trade every so often, as not to have to eat the cost of a battery pack. The pack costs as much as the vehicle, and requires nearly a total disassembly of the vehicle to replace it. Not interested in that, not as an owner. I'm not interested in doing that as a tech either, but it's part of the job, which is my livelihood.

last part is true, however what if you have to travel once a month, or even once a year? Then you have to have a second car (ICE)-and the insurance, taxes, and such that come along with it. I guess if I were collecting taxes and such, that'd be a great idea-mandate EV's for everyone, and then they'd be likely to keep TWO cars instead of one. Until electric cars/trucks can do everything gas or diesel can, I'm only gonna have one kind and it won't be electric. Nonetheless our leaders keep making up laws that are causing a lot of anxiety among drivers and car owners.

exactly why I don't drive mine. People are generally stupid when it comes to driving, and my old antique cannot be replaced, at least not easily. Therefore I drive an old paid off truck that has 14 colors of earthtone and rust on the body. That way if some dummy hits it, it's worth more to their insurance company than it is on the market.

Her and I was talking earlier. I owe about $27,000 on the house which is my only debt. I have my motorcycle sold (waiting for guy to pick it up), at $5k, and I'm thinking about selling my old car. Figure I can get an easy $20k out of it. That would almost pay the house off which would free up a good chunk of money each month which I can then use to better invest with. Hate to sell it but I think it's about time to let it go. Owned it since 2007. Also have a race car that I have owned since 1992 which might end up going away too. Kind of burned out on it. And a lot of other things I'm kind of burned out on.

My comment was just about you describing him talking about the range which sounds limited but good enough for him.

The simple answer is, I'll never be able to make my own gasoline or diesel, it's just not practical, especially without relying on outside sources even for biodiesel to make it. But I can make my own electricity. And I do. Solar has finally reached the point where it's not a fad, you can practically create electricity and store it for long term use. Modern panels and batteries have a 20+ year life and even then, if you use them hard, they still are rated for 80% capacity of their original life. Installers and commercial systems will rip you off hard, for about 15k most people can be completely off grid with solar and battery backup if you do it yourself. A little more and you can also charge an electric utv for daily use.

I'm not saying i'd get rid of my gas car/truck. But i'm looking for an electric utv to help with chicken feed. Mainly bags back and forth from storage. IT's not going to work for everyone for everything, but for some things, it definitely works.

I bought my house 38 years ago, paid it off 35 years ago,sold the last of my toys ('67 stang FB ) 30 years ago.

Thing is, there are a LOT of muscle cars in 'old guys garages' that the kids will sell 3 days after dad's 6 feet under.

It's sad to hear the car's in the garage, same as planes in a hanger.... NOT their 'natural' habitat !

Takeaways from this article:
1.EV's are more like cellphones than cars and are proprietary and designed to be unrepairable
2.Spare parts i.e. batteries are not available for late model EVs
3.Manufacturers cannot be trusted i.e. Nissan changes warranty coverage from 9/12 cells working to 7/12 cell working before warranty kicks in

I'm really starting to think that I won't buy an EV until the government regulators get their acts together and force manufacturers to standardize batteries and charging systems.

Right now consumers are the losers because governments are trying to ram EV's down our throats and we don't have the infrastructure or standards to support changing over

I listed it last night late. Reluctantly, but it's time. GF and I talked it over a good while and we decided that it's the best option for our short AND long term goals. I have the money to pay the house off now, but it's stuck in an account that we keep as a rainy-day fund. I really don't want to (or need to) touch it.

I fear I might have listed it too cheap. Have had about 6 people already showing interest in it.

I too inherited my dad's collection; or at least part of it. I wanted to keep it, but after spending some time going over them with a fine-tooth comb, I realized that they were just thrown together and had some new shine put on them. Dad wasn't very thorough. As long as it ran/drove, it was 'good'. I fixed a lot of stuff, and the more I looked at them the more stuff I found wrong. SO, I decided that since I don' have time or space for them, I sent them to new enthusiasts-which they were. At some point I may pick up something else but as of right now I'm more interested in eliminating a mortgage, and then looking closer at some property that my GF's family owns.

when I bought my house ,'mutual funds' were all the rage. everyone said buy into them.being ,well, 1/2 my now age, i thought about it,long and hard.

OK, so if I buy a house with a huge mortgage and invest MY money in Mfunds what can happen ?
Well,worst case...the market goes 'south', I lose all the paper profit from the Mfunds, lose MY money
that bought buy the worthless papers, can't pay mortgage, bank takes house........NOW I have now house, no money........

So few years after I buy, yup, the market tanks.....BUT I paid 'down' my mortgage as fast as I could, and have MY house 100% fully paid for !! Sold a few toys along the way,oh well....

The other thing about a mortgage, is that typically you'll pay the purchase price 3 or 4 times in interest ! Today there's fancy 'apps' that'll show you that. To me ANY interest is wasted money YOU had to earn and pay taxes on.

Mostly, they do work although at some point you have to replace the batteries. A Ranger owner posted a question about replacements the other day. If you go that route, it might worth checking on the cost to replace the batteries.

I am more leaning towards a club car carry all, with lift kit, bigger wheels, and upgraded motor. I don't need 4x4 to haul chicken feed a hundred yards. It's not steep grade. And that totals about 8k compared to 15k for something bigger. A 4x4 bed is sufficient, I can get 8 bags in there no problem.

Stop fooling yourself - the reality is we are all currently subsidizing oil burners and rewarding wasteful behaviour.

Vehicles need to be getting smaller and lighter to be more environmentally friendly, instead fat North Americans expect a free ride with unlimited consumption and no accountability. I blame the Boomers because they feel entitled to consume and pollute because they are the "me generation". They are also the ones driving corporate welfare - that's the tragedy here - corporate socialism is milking the system under the guise of free market capitalism.

don't just blame the boomers....
I keep checking to see if ANYONE makes a battery powered regular cab,short box pickup ? Nope, just 4wd, 4 door ,micro beds.
