I can't tell if it's from the deck or the PTO. Mows OK but it is LOUD to the point of pain. Deck has fresh oil in the gear box all fittings are lubed. I did have a bad time installing the drive shaft, seems tight. Some of the PTO shaft spline is protruding out of the yoke, is that normal?

What tractor, what deck?

You should probably drop the PTO shaft and spin it by hand to eliminate the mower deck as the cause. Mebbe even slip the belt off the tensioner and feel each spindle.

Is the noise present all the time or just while the mower is starting to spin? If it is just while the mower is starting to spin then you may be engaging the PTO at too high RPM.

First, I would NOT run it again until you get it figured out. Too much risk of major damage. Don't start it to answer my questions below.

Are you sure the tractor and mower are compatible? Did they come to you as a pair? What models?

This the first time using the mower?

Did you notice any vibration?

Does the sound change if deck is raised or lowered?

Does the mower drive shaft move on/off the tractor mid-PTO?

Are the splines showing on the tractor side (meaning yoke isn't on very far), or are the splines showing inside the U-Joint (meaning it could be on too far)?

I'm with hagrid, more likely a spindle, belt or belt pulley. But good to start here, as a problem here can be a major expense to fix and can cause major damage in a short time.....

This is my BX2360 mid-PTO connection. You can just see some spline inside the U-joint. Again, not likely same tractor or mower.

Yes, I just hooked the deck up, my spline protrusion looks about the same, perhaps a little shorter, could be the angle of the pic though.I did not hear any change in pitch lift high or low. Since I installed the DS, which was a pita, I've not been able to remove it...seems stuck.
I had to use a mallet to get it started. Aside from the awful noise of this whine, deck seems to cut very well. None of my other mowers are this LOUD!!! trust me, this is bad, my nearby neighbor 500 yards away
called me asking if my tractor was dying...says it all. I'm thinking of trying to use a stethoscope while the deck is engaged to isolate the area. I'm happy with the quality cut but, not this noise.I enclose a picture of the small portion I cut in the field, about 1.5 acre, happy with that. I just hope it's not in the PTO.

check to see if there is anything rubbing on the serpentine belt. There could also be a bearing that is wearing out.

maybe 14 and 1/2 feet of bailing wire wrapped around one spindle ??
If you disconnect the MMM, then engage the PTO ,does it whine ??

What did you hit with mallet ??

I am going to remove the cover on the right side, there is a rub mark on the inside, did not give it much thought but, you may have hit on something that I just dismissed as nothing but....it could be. belt is a little frayed on top. I will check that out in the AM...if I can sleep or I'll be burning the midnight oil. Also, Thank you for your service.

What kind of ear rings are you getting?

Seriously though, some transmissions are pretty loud, but assuming it is new, my guess is a belt as well.

The drive shaft trying to get it on the PTO shaft....soft mallet no great force.

Agree with Hagrid on taking it apart enough to spin the parts and pieces by hand to check for binding and grinding stuff. Personally, I would prefer to diagnose it prior to running it again if practical.

If you do run it again while it’s still acting up, I’ve had pretty good success finding squealers with an infrared thermometer while the squealing thing is running. Dragging bearings and slipping belts create more heat than stuff that’s working right.

Thank you for the replies,

It's a BX2200 with loader and a RCK60B-22BX deck.
Certainly looks like the right mower from Kubota site.

I think others are right. As much as a headache it is, it'd probably disassemble some. Run mid-PTO without the mower attached, then move on to spindles, belt, etc.

I did not remove my spring when I changed my belt years ago. If I remember correctly I used a pry bar to take the tension off the belt and then slipped the belt off the pulley.
