Dumping landline phone service?

Just a quick question.

I am getting a bit aggravated by my total internet package cost.

It just seems excessive for what you get.

I am thinking of dumping my landline and just using WiFi cell phone as my normal phone. All we get anyway over the landline is robo calls anyway.

Appreciate any pointers as to the good or bad of doing this.

We did it two years ago and haven’t looked back. The only pain is updating your primary phone number to your cell with banks, credit cards, etc.

We had our land line for a few years since it was part of a bundle with internet. We quickly unplugged the land line since all we got were robocalls. When a better deal without bundling came along we dumped the land line.

In 5 years, haven’t missed it one bit. Added benefit - I get my calls, wife gets her calls.

Lots of people have done it. Personally we need the $300+ a month Verizon package to run our computers for working at home and school zoom classes. We also have 5 iPhones that no one can live without except me that are included in the plan. My first mortgage 30 years ago was $314 a month. I dreaded it. I pay another $100 monthly for wifi at my "shack" in the woods. Over $400 monthly. Maybe this will make you feel better. Schadenfreude= Finding joy in others dismay. A German word.

I finally convinced my wife to get rid of our land line a couple of weeks ago. It only took ten+ years to convince her telemarketers and her mother were the only people who called the landline.

We have had Tracfone for 20 years and dropped the landline when we retired 5 years ago. Out phones have sequential numbers and it only costs about $8/mo/phone when I buy 2 years of airtime. We've never run out of minutes or data, I've spent more time on hold than talking...

Yep - - we discontinued landline about 5 years ago too.

Don't miss the 10 robocalls per day.....I get 1 or 2 a week on my cell.

Haven't had a land line since 2004. Already had a cell phone; didn't need one.

I chose OOMA and pay a little extra for two numbers. I was able to have my old land line number ported to the new system. The second number is my fax number.

Dumped the landline 15 years ago. Had to have cell phones for business reasons anyway. Landline was strictly an added cost once we got a fax app for the computer (which we haven’t used in years). Haven’t missed it at all.

Same as everyone. Dumped land line years ago. Haven’t missed it. Updated family when it was tossed. Others updated as time passed. Nothing worse than working on your tractor, enjoying yourself, when telemarketers call wanting to clean your ducks.

We still have landline at home. MIL claims it is easier to call us on landline than on cell phone.

We had a landline at the cabin because there was no cell service.

Got rid of the landline up at the cabin because the phone company was populated with morons.
We have an unlisted, blocked number in the valley, and the phone always worked great for calling the wife & checking in when I was up north alone. Then one day I couldn't get through; wife could call me, but I could not call her. Called the phone company, and they said "Yes, we changed some software". I asked how do we correct the problem? They informed me that they would not correct the problem, I would no longer be able to call any unlisted or blocked numbers. I explained calling that unlisted, blocked number was the ONLY thing I needed the phone for, and if I could not call it, they may as well disconnect me from their service.
They suggested I call someone without a blocked, unlisted number, tell them everything I needed to convey to my wife, and then they could call her & relay the conversation.

Their response was "I see you pay $18 per month, how about we lower that to $15 per month?"
I re-explained that the phone was useless to me if I couldn't call that Phoenix number. Their response was "How about $12"

"Well how about $8?"
I told them to disconnect the service and refund any money I had coming.
Verizon put up a cell tower about a 1/4 mile from the cabin, maybe a month later, so we only had no phone service for a month.

The benefits of landline service are mostly gone now. Cell service is sometimes more reliable during weather emergencies anyway, due to downed landlines and other natural disasters.

I ditched the landline service many years ago and had the home phone number ported over to a cell phone.

These days I have the $15.00 per month Verizon wireless home phone service. I had to buy a converter, for $100.00 that connects to a dedicated cell tower, but that was the only cash outlay for the change over. I used the phones that I already had from my previous landline to connect to the Verizon converter so those old phones did not go to waste. You could also do as I did and connect the Verizon converter to the house phone jacks and plug in your old phones anywhere you had them before.

When I leave home for a trip I forward the Verizon Wireless Home Phone number to my cell phone so I never miss a call from the home phone. It works for me, your needs may vary.

Our internet/TV/phone (house & cell) bill was $209 per month, until Dec 4th.
Killed the house phone!
Now $44.99 for internet (Frontier one year promo), $11.67 internet TV provider, with 3,000+ channels, and $15 cell phone (Mint Mobile).
Total is: $71.66 per month v/s $209.
I am lovin it !
