Hi Folks,

I have a D722 with about 600 hours on it. After the fact, I realized I had read the service manual incorrect for servicing and have retorqued the head bolts. I'm kicking myself as hard as possible knowing full well I have at a significant chance of having something bad come from this.

Can anyone comment on how to proceed? Should I just hope for the best, do a compression test to see if there are any issues? Or?

Yes you can all have a laugh on me, I deserve it right now.

No I won't laugh at you. We all misread/interpret things incorrectly sometimes. Anyhow I would leave it alone. If any damage will occur from this it likely has already happened. To do anything now would involve reinstalling the head with a new gasket. Keep track of the regular stuff that comes with a cracked head.
Chance nothing will come of it:D

Thank you for the reply. After calming down a bit I came to the conclusion you did. I ran the engine today and all seemed normal, but I will monitor for blown head gasket symptoms.

ACP, when you retorqued the bolts what value did you torque them to? was it the same value given in the workshop man. as the final "ft. lbs"? if you did that correctly and did not over tighten them by a significant it is unlikely that any trouble will result. A gross over torquing would result in bolt stretch and possibly failure.

I would run and monitor for gasket failure along the way. stop if something appears amiss later. I sure would closely watch coolant level and oil quality while using it over the next 15-20 hrs. But I really dont think you have anything to worry about.

If a issue comes up, remove head, check for cracks, reinstall with a new gasket.

Good luck, Kytim
