Had the septic tank pumped at a house I am remodeling a while a go. Noticed the pumper never put the lid back on and was never sure why. Went to put it back on today and was too lazy to get something to lower it down. It was Heavy and I thought I would gently flop it in the hole which was a bad idea it turns out as it perfectly fell in. With the assistance of a garden how I was able to capture the handle and pull it up. I then used the bx25 and a strap to hold the weight whilst I wallerd around and manipulate it back through. Soon not to be repeated!

Man hole covers are round so they cant fall through.

Re: Don't lick your fingers at lunch

I guess it was cast elliptical rather than circular and it happened to fall through on the major diameter.

I always thought lids covered the hole, not small enough to fit through it.

I have a similar riser extension above my tank access. I just leave the tank lid off, and cover the extension riser with it's own heavy lid

Re: Don't lick your fingers at lunch

20+ years ago I was at a place to look at a sewage system problem.

Pump truck was there, driver had the suction hose down in the tank, pumping away.

He was holding the hose with one hand, and his bologna sandwich in the other, chompin' away........:eek::eek:

True story.... :p

I had a guy pumping a tank a few years ago and he brought his girl friend with him. She was a keeper, for him.

RCW, I didn't want to steal your thunder, but yes he had a sandwich!

It's a long story. My tank just fell in, collapsed. Had to get it pumped so I could get the old lid out and build a new one. Took more time than the average pumping job. I had talked to the owner and this driver wasn't wanting to do the details the owner and I had discussed. It would have made quite the movie!

That’s hilarious!! Was it bologna???

Maybe my buddy from 20 years ago moved west for love!![emoji7][emoji7]

The owner of that pump truck is still a friend of mine, and I occasionally remind him of his driver....he just shakes his head...[emoji849]

WELL! The sandwich is going to end up in the tank anyway!

Just make your own lid that goes over top of the hole instead if in it.
