Do you store your FEL outside under a tarp??

Hello, I am new and very excited to be getting my new BX1860 with the FEL. I am curious where does every one store their FEL when not in use?? I was thinkinging outside by my garage under a tarp. My utility garage might be a bit tight to drop the FEL with all my other gear in there. Are you mowing with the FEL on or not???

Congratulations on your new tractor, I really like the BX line.

We store the FEL for our 2660 in the barn and always mow with the FEL off, these things are amazingly simple to mount/dismount.

If I had to store it outside. I would put it on blocks or something and cover with a breathable cover.

I never mow with the FEL on. Store mine in the tractor shed and park the tractor between the frame/arms.

Congrads and welcome,,, Aroud here we put everything away we dont want to disapear,, 2 months ago a guy I work with had his brush hog, 2 sets of plows and a set of disks go missing and they were in a 3 sided building in his lower field,,,They stole a big cub out of my barn I saw them leaving and gave chase across the fiels in my truck ,,well they hit the edge of the road HARD ( about a 4 inch drop off the road to the field) and bounced it off the trailer,, it was not great before but junk after that,, so My advice if you have to keep it out chain it up, or put it inside or get a big freekin dog and a shotgunkk Just MHO you understand

Thanks guys. I am pumped. Its comming Friday. I have about 12 acres of wooded property and 3 acres to mow. My neighbor has a B series and mows with his FEL on. I figured I could squeeze it on the floor of my utility garage if I had to. It's a 38'x18 but with a bass boat large ATV and all the other lawn gear/bow targets,etc, it's gonna be tight with a FEL on the floor. I was thinking worst case scenario a old boat cover and sit the FEl out side in a secured area.

What works great for me to cover my tractor is I took a drop in bed liner and flip it upside down ans use that to cover the tractor with. It's worked the best for me beacause its a heavy duty plastic, its never blow off or been torn nor does it rip. Easy to clean the snow off of it in the winter time and best of all its FREE. I got several of bed liners from a local shop who installes the spray in liners and takes out all the old drop in ones.

Awhile I asked a simular question about my BH and was told to make sure you coat the exposed cylinders with something like WD-40 if it will be stored for long periods of time. I put it on blocks as well and it all worked great when I needed it to.

When Both Tractor and FEL are not being used they will be in the garage.

We use LPS-3 as a protectant for chromed rams when stored for any period of time--such as seasonal hay eqpt.

Used to wipe on a light coat of grease then before use run a rag over the rams and clean them up to get off all the acucmulated dust grit and windblown debris. Then discovered LPS-3.

Even using waxy -3 still wipe everything down with gentle solvent before use.

LPS also has a different material for shorter-term storage that might better fit your needs. Not cheap but pretty good stuff. Much better than WD-40 that tends to run off quickly and not provide any protection.

Most users never worry about such things. Some kill seals every year and wonder why while others never have a problem doing nothing. Luck of the draw to some extent.

Regarding use of FEL during mowing: perhaps not needed if 'mowing' opposed to 'shredding' or 'brushhogging' but I tend to leave quik-detach bucket on and angled down close to ground as a rock-and-junk finder before mowing over things that will tear up mower. Hidden fallen limbs for instance.

It's amazing how many rocks will grow a new point annually due to frost heave. First couple loops around the place every season if the bucket scrapes something I get off and pitch it into the bucket. Since bucket is angled down when used in 'detection mode' I welded a 3-sided box that sits into bucket and clamps to side with heavy clamp. Box made of bolted-screwed 2x6's would work just as well.

After place is cleaned up a bit I tend to drop the bucket; rarely if ever set off the entire loader frame.

I've read about trying to hook the FEL back up when stored outside and temp has changed causing increased pressure on the lines.
So, me being me, I disconnected my FEL outside when I mowed one day. I usually store it in my barn. But this time I just wanted a trial run when I had plenty of time to screw around with it. Intentionally set it on uneven ground in the sun.

Hooking up the quick disconnects was a pain. I tried the 'release pressure with a screwdriver' trick. Couldn't get any pressure relief. So I tried pushing the connects on hard, got a little burp of fluid and pulled the hose back off to let a few drops of fluid drain from the connection. Twice more and it went on well. Did next line down the same way and moved the joystick to relieve pressure on the system and the last tow went on as normal.

Getting the frame back on was uneventful. Just moved the bucket up and down until it lined up with the frame. My plan was to put a 2X6 block under one tire or the other to level the tractor to the bucket but didn't need to do that.

Sorry for the long winded reply. But, if you store your FEL outside the temp issue may get to you one day.

We routinely remove the FEL's on our Kubotas and heating/expansion etc., isn't a big problem. My wife helps and just takes a screwdriver, punch etc., covers it with a rag, pops it loose and hooks it up. My son can usually just muscle it on.

Thanks for everyone's reply... looks like I found a space in my barn IF I dont want to leave the FEL on. Mowing with the FEL on isnt a worry at all. Bucket low and respect the hills.

Do you have any added weight added to your rig. I would think with a bucket full there may be an issue.

I am running the rear tires loaded with Rimguard, aka..Beatjuice. It's very solid.
