no and no but everyone has their opinion like engine oils; some do things their way some do it Kubota's way. I do it kubota's way. If the book don't say put thread locker on the head bolts I don't put none on. Same for gasket sealant. It is not needed, even on MLS gaskets unless the manufacturer says so.

I've rebuilt 2 engines and had to remove the heads on a couple. NEVER used any loctite.

Find out what to do about gasket sealant. New type gaskets generally do not require anything; whereas, old style copper ones want some grease on the gasket. Made that mistake once. That was one of them that I had to remove.

Nope on the loctite and don’t reuse the old head bolts. if the bolts are torqued to spec, they shouldn’t back out but when torqued to spec, they stretch a little there fore you shouldn’t refuse them.

The use of loctite, anti-sieze, or any other goop on threads will change the torque specifications. That is especially important for head bolts. As Lugbolt said, don't use anything unless it is specified in the book.

thanks for the headsup i saw a guy on you tube building a 2 cylinder diesel and he was putting that sealent on the gaskets and locketite the headbolts . my neighbor said the same as you guys so thats the way we roll. the is on torqued to specs and he is in the process making a rod to slip into the pilot bearing to get the clutch and fly wheel to align up to the shaft coming out the transmission. he has more know how than napa auto parts. ok thanks again pa-sf

I use anti-sieze on exhaust manifolds and exhaust bolts/clamps because of the high operating temps

Also on mower blade bolts

yup you tube university is what i call it that is why i am asking you guys kind of a second opinion on my rebuild of the b6200 engine. how about the brass ring i have does it go on the threaded shaft coming out of transmission a certain way . it sits right under the throwout bearing and back towards the transmission ? we are getting ready to put the engine back in . my neighbor is making a shaft tool to line up the clutch and pressure plate so we have a perfect fit. getting there slow but sure

Funny thing about the youtube mechanics.

Rarely are they 100% right.

That is all ;)
I had to laugh, because my gut was telling me they are never 100 percent right.

But that would be unfair, since occasionally each may be completely right.

Thanks for the laugh, lugbolt, even though it was not justified! (on my part)

ok we installed the flywheel and clutch house assembly today with a little trouble getting the right holes lined up. the metal pilot tool bob made for me worked perfect. bolts are torqued the motor looks like it is ready fly says bob. the next clear day this project is coming to an end and then i see how the tiller will work. it is a kubota as well so hope i have better luck with it. if anyone has anything i missed let me know. oh i did not go with the locktite and extra adhesive on head. just keeping it real. thanks

Right.

Youtube changing the serpentine belt on a 2005 F350.

One listing will have a guy under the truck swearing,
One listing will have a guy selling the "tool" to do it from the top - lol.
One listing (a mechanic) will say just pull on the belt, the idler has a kickstand built in that will hold the idler back

And then my mechanic friend said, the kickstands are usually rusted and gone, just loosen the two bolts on the top of the alternator, nothing to it.

There are a lot of ways to skin a cat.
