Do I need more horse power?

That is a lot to mow. I'd put trails through about 3 to 3 1/2 acres and only mow once/yr.

I run the brush hog and the wood chipper on the B2601 at 2300 rpm, which is about 450 rpm on the rear PTO. Has no problems mowing going uphill. Loafs along with the WC46 chipper. Thought that huge weight on the L2501 is a bit much.

I've got an L3901 with a 5' Land Pride rotary cutter. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the 6' cutter.
I have come close to overloading the bush hog in tall grass, but never lost RPM.

Yea that’s the main difference in the HP for mowing use. I’ve lost power with my 5ft in thick wet grass. Lucky for me, mowing season is pretty dry where I live.

Or, you could always install one of these on your L2501 and not worry about it anymore;

I love having the MMM. I can pull the backhoe and FEL off in under 3 minutes and be mowing. My wife uses the JD X380 and we have 5 acres mowed in an hour. Use the hoe and FEL all the time. Never knew how bad I needed a tractor until I bought one.

Installation of the Turbo system is straightforward and takes just a little over an hour. Gaining access to the fuel adjustment screw takes another hour. So roughly 2 hours total for installation.

Money? Everything costs money, unfortunately. But, all things considered, it’s cheaper than alternative tractor upgrades and a lot of everyday implements.
