I have a L245F. (2 wheel drive)(Engine 25HP, Drawbar 18HP)
Im searching online to buy one maybe someday soon.
I wont be dragging it with the steepest angle setting.
Im pretty sure I would be alright with a 5 footer but
am I pushing my luck with a 6 footer ?
Thanks

Yes, just get one wide enough to cover tire tracks...:D
5 will just cover my tracks. Sounds like Id better stick with the 5 footer.
Ive been seeing some good deals on 6 foot discs but didnt know if I should go that big.
Seems like there is so many 6 feet discs and hardly any 5 in my area.
Thanks

Ground engagement implements can be unforgiving. You might find you can run a 5' just fine but the 6' either won't pull, won't work right, or just bogs the tractor down and overheats it.

So I'd stick with the 5'. You might find that you actually can disc faster and cover more ground quicker than you could with the 6'. That means the job might get finished faster despite the loss of the extra foot. ;)

If you get a deal on a 6' you could always take the outside disc off and make it a 5'. You might be able to pull a 6' if you're not running it at full angle.

Loaded rear tires and/or wheel weights will help if you don't already have that done. I pull a trail type 9 or 10' with my L3000 but have to use 4wd.

one thing I forgot- if you can get a disc with the biggest diameter discs, they cut better. Also, notched blades cut up sod better...:D:D

I dont have them loaded yet but I hope to within one to two more years.

That sounds good.

All great help.
I read somewhere that a general rule of thumb for disc to HP is roughly 1.25 HP per working disc.
Thanks

5' is what you want. 2 wheel drive is the factor, it's all about the traction/wheel slip. If at all possible look at a 5 foot tiller. It replaced three implements when I got one (2 bottom plow, disc, and a spring tooth/cultivator). Does a WAY better job and you can go slow. I know it's $$$ but one of those things you learn.

Removing disc on rear gangs is not very easy.
Either way I would rather get the correct size than to modify but I agree with you and thanks.

I have thought about a tiller but later down the road. Right now Im kinda playing around arrowhead hunting. I do agree with you that a tiller would be worth the investment but I didnt mention my intentions with the disc.
Thanks

My wife and I replaced all the disc on my 10' trail type. It was real easy, but I have seen some that were a PIA.
If for some reason I cant find a 5 foot and I find a really good deal on 6 foot then I will first make sure its adjustable and try to run the discs straight instead of angled and if that doesnt work I will either modify it or sell it.
Thanks
