I never did understand why some people treated the MSHA man like the enemy. It never did make good sense to try and hide problem areas from them. If the company wouldn't allow us to fix the problem you better believe that I would point it out to inspector that was there. For some reason it always seemed to get fixed after that PDQ. I was lucky enough to have a boss that really thought a lot of his men and wanted to make it as safe as he could but you know how the uppers are sometimes. All they see are numbers and don't want to see the faces behind them.
You sound like one of the ones that I would have got along with just fine. I didn't care for the young guys that let their power go to their head. Those were so hard to get along with and seemed to only care about writing you up just to show you that they could. They sure do give MSHA a bad rep by treating people that way.
