On my BX2670, I only have a FEL, snow blade and my trusty shovel. Aside from purchasing a middle buster to loosen the dirt then hand digging, any thoughts on how to use the Kubota to dig a footer?

Some rental places have AG equipment. Maybe you can find a 3pt post hole digger to rent. Maybe even one to attach to FEL or front Quick Attach if you got one?

You could get a stump bucket.

But really better to just rent a mini excavator to get it done quick.

Jay2, the equipment you have isn't going to do much for you for digging a footer.

How many linear feet of digging do you need? What soil conditions? Rock? 1,2,3 or 4 walls? The quick answer is to rent something to get it done.

Digging a footer with a backhoe is not bad, ifn you had one, a shovel would be - well, insane.....

If you rent, do not rent a backhoe, rent a mini rubber tread trackhoe - it will run circles around a backhoe - no question! Even if it cost twice as much per hour - when it comes to pure digging a footer the excavator is hard to beat. It's maneuverability is unparalleled.
The picture that NIW posted is ideal. ;)

Now I have seen crazy attachments that "strap on" to the bucket.......but that would be a complete waste of money - just saying.:)

There is also an old 3 point hitch tree digger, that can be used, but they're rather hard to find, except in christmas tree farming areas. It attaches to the 3 point hitch, and has a U shaped metal blade, on the bottom. I do know that bobcat has a front mounted skidsteer attach version of it. It does not stick way out in front, like the ditch/stump bucket does... the 3 point model will go about 18" deep, as I recall. I've been going to auctions a long time, and only saw 1 in 30 years... As others have said, a rental rubbertrack excavator is the cat's meow in digging footings...:D:D

How well would a tooth bar on the bucket work for something like this? Never used one but I am curious how well one would work for a job like this.

That reminds me. Years ago my Uncle put in his leach bed with a rototiller and shovel. So not too much different then a footer.

I don't know how this would work out,for digging a footer, but I once buried a length of pipe, through a driveway, using the FEL forks, placed as close together as I could get them, and used like a front end loader shovel attachment...

Speaking of that attachment, I have seen one of those bolt on thingies that goes on a loader bucket, that will dig maybe 12-18" deep, but haven't read a review, yet...:D:D

What is your frost line and code? That will dictate the right coarse of action. Personally I'd rent an excavator - wham, bam, thank you mam.

If the footing your needing is for something in the back 40 and nobody really cares, you can dig it with anything you can come up with.

If it must be inspected to meet a building code, you will be miles ahead to do it correctly the first time, because when the inspector finds something he doesn't like you have much bigger problems fixing and getting approval.
