Differential lock pedal

The locking pedal is a simple round bar. Adequate till your shoes get muddy.
Used short pieces of rectangle tubing and double split shaft collars to improve the pedal.

For the M59. 1.5”x3” tubing and 9/16” shaft collar.

B26 used 2”x3” tubing and two 5/8” double split shaft collars.

The shaft collars are only a couple of $$ (Amazon or eBay) and steel tubing were saw drops. Now easier to fully engage.

thats a great idea!! if I have my work boots tied up, I cant bend my ankle enough to easily use the diff lock on my 23s . They should have made the bar about 1" longer. Works great in running shoes but I rarely wear them.

Multiple tractors and multiple users. Important to fully engage when needed. Often dealing with other operations when needing to engage. Few spots when mowing it’s needed and helps my wife (boots) to engage properly. Spring return is plenty strong to support the added weight.

Paul Short makes pedals for some models for purchase. Always quality accessories.

I like the lower profile and mud grip grate of my prototypes.

You could probably make some decent side money selling them. That stubby little round bar is really easy to slip off of while doing a bunch of other stuff and the tractor often being at some weird angle. Only thing about mine I’d consider a poor design.

I would buy one for my 2501. Anytime I need to lock in the differential I am in a hairy situation and it’s barely usable because it slips out from under the heel of my boot.

I do like the double shaft collars. They grip the shaft pedal shaft without a setscrew that can loosen. Also easy to weld.

not sure what I would pay, but shipping it to us in the North would be the killer.

Assuming that the orange one was the first prototype, and the gray one was the finished design, I do prefer the gray unit. The only change that I would make is to have the set screws accessible from the front, instead of the rear.
Could you please post some dimensions of the pieces that you used to make this? thanks Dust

I would buy one for my bx2680, the one Paul has looks nice but for the BX seems large. I like your simpler design and the grates for traction built in. If you get more hits on making them and decide to.. let me know.

~1.5” length of 2x3” tubing. Those are not set screws both clamping screws for the two collar half’s. My bigger tractor has a smaller pedal lever and required a smaller shaft collar. The shaft collars make an easy bolt on/off. Welding on even easier.

What would, in reality, cause me to actually order one? Not considering your side of it (time, materials, etc.) because, in reality, I usually don’t much consider that on small purchases; it’s just a cost/benefit for me.

For the gray one (color not important, just identifying style) I’d pay $20 + reasonable shipping. $25 + shipping; depends on when I last had a real problem with it and how rich/poor I’m feeling. Past that, I’d more likely fab something even if it doesn’t look as good as yours, which it probably wouldn’t.

Not saying you wouldn’t have sales at a higher price point. I’m aware I can be pretty cheap at times, but didn’t see anyone answering that question directly, so there’s a brutally honest answer from one admitted cheapskate.

Thought I would make a comment as a home shop guy that likes to design and build things. It always amazes me how people who do not make things think your time is not worth any thing. You are saying that for $20 he is supposed to design and build package and ship for $20 ? How much is your time worth? Not to mention the cost to build , equip and maintain a shop.

I see some denial on the boots. If I had boots like that, I'd ROCK 'em and be proud. That would make me fit right in with the latest culture. Go ahead, hold your breath for that to happen. I haven't been "en vogue" since I was a kid. Most, not my choice, but some was, and all of it always caused strife for others, not me. My wife calls me the hockey stick. Ain't that what's used for stirring up the defecation?
