Differential lever question

Hello everyone,

Getting to know my new tractor (B2650) and have a quick question on the diff lever. I didn't notice it right away, but did become aware of a small, L shaped lever located at the base of the seat on the left side. I know this level activates the diff lock but my question is, do you have to hold this lever down to activate the locker and then let go of the lever when out of the bad condition?

I can not seem to find if you push it down and release and then its engaged or

Push down on the lever and hold down to engage diff lock and the lock disengages when your foot is released.

Disregard, This site has a very nice video about this feature and it answered my question along with explaining the 4wd system. thanks anyways

It works well, but I do wish it had the option of engaging it without having to hold it down.

It's setup the way it is to be automatically temporary as not to do damage from overuse and provide a very fast means of disengagement for quick steering.

from page 39 of the Operator Manual:

Do not operate the tractor at high speed with
differential lock engaged.

Do not attempt to turn with the differential lock
engaged.

Be sure to release the differential lock before
making a turn in field conditions.

If one of the rear wheels should slip, step on the
differential lock pedal. Both wheels will turn together, then
reduce slippage.

Differential lock is maintained only while the pedal is
depressed.

When using the differential lock, always slow the
engine down.

To prevent damage to power train, do not engage
differential lock when one wheel is spinning and the
other is completely stopped.

If the differential lock cannot be released in the above
manner, step lightly on the brake pedals alternately.

I understand them wanting to dumb down the tech to keep folks from breaking stuff, but if done correctly it would be handy to not have to keep your foot on the pedal in certain circumstances.

I suspect the manufacturers don’t want the diff lock “locked” so operators won’t drive off a cliff or into a pond when they can’t turn.
I used the diffy lock on my 2wd B8200 all the time. Unfortunately, I also wrenched my back badly because of the horrible ergonomics of operating the control.

Yes I did spend pockets full of cash to buy a brand new shiny tractor. I read the electronic manual before my tractor was received. As you know since you read every word, the manual is quite lengthy and unfortunately I was unable to remember every sentence.

As you can imagine, when I took delivery of my tractor I was so excited that I didn’t notice the dealer forgot to provide me with my physical copy.

Having recently joined an online forum strictly related to tractors, I thought it would give me something to post about and a topic to receive input from different owners.

I’m continually amazed at people who troll the internet in attempts to bash other people. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and provide information as useful as what my dog leaves on the lawn.

Keeth1123, I made a comment and you took offense. No need to call names and act childish. I don't need to hear your excuses as to why you can't read. A lot of folks are just lazy. If you enjoy an internet forum use the search function to find answers works also!

See the post Dirtydeed made? He went out of his way to quote the manual for you. He probably did not have that memorized, he looked it up to help you!

I made a general statement, sorry you took it so personal. Because you don't like an answer, is it common practice to call someone a troll? Read your manual and maybe you can help someone in the future, or go clean up your yard so you don't get processed dog food on your tires!!

Just be thankful you didn't buy an airplane.

The dealer gave me the hard copy of my manual a week before my delivery. I read it twice before the tractor was delivered. To this day I still don’t remember everything in it. I come here to learn more about mine in real world, (as real as the internet can be ) conditions and others experiences good and bad.
I’ve found it to be a good site.
In the automotive world the salesperson knows there’s an a$$hole for every seat and I suppose it could be the same in any industry that has equipment with a seat. I am not calling anyone out or directing that statement to anyone.
Get a thick skin and enjoy a good Kubota tractor site.

P.S. If I look in the mirror sometimes the a$$hole is me!

I certainly would not get offended by an internet post and appreciate the comments. Actually if we were all to take time to read the manual immediately upon every question then this site wouldn***8217;t exist. I am certainly able to respond to someone who makes a post with absolutely no substance and no point. In fact, that previous post is the definition of the term used in the response.

I know I read this but its hard for this old dog to apply this advise in the heat of the moment. The old Farmall just took a tap of the left or right brake to correct the offending wheel slip. Now Im still learning to rock the treadle forward and reverse on the HST, and rarely use the brake pedals. I do sometimes find myself with one rear wheel in a hole and the rear implement like the brush hog skids grounded, and then the wheel starts to spin. And sometives I even have the cruise lever pushed forward, so another item keeping the wheel spinning....

Hard to remember to throttle down, and let treadle go to neutral before mashing down the diff lock lever. Hopefully I'll learn before I break the dogs or cause major issues

People today find reading an owner's manual to be boring. They'd rather ask on a forum...lol

Amazing what you can find out by reading the tome that comes with every tractor, car, boat, chainsaw, weed wacker, motorcycle or anything else for that matter.

Keeth1123 this is not directed at you at all. Cat what a very true statement. The majority of new owners do not read any manuals or paperwork they get with their tractor or mower for that matter. I know I am in the minority, but when I got my new B2650, I read the tractor manual, loader manual, mmm manual. I also ordered the wsm with my tractor got very familiar with that also. I retired from running equipment all of my life, so knew most things, but still picked up alot of things I didnt know that really helped. Helping my Kubota dealer delivering tractors, rtvs and mowers, I see first hand a very high percentage of customers are new to the product and would really benefit from reading the manuals that came with the machine.
