We have a diesel Kubota tractor that we ran out of gas. We went thru priming the fuel injectors, as we have done this once before. We finally got it started and it ran for probably a good 5 minutes. I went to bring the 3pt up and the bucket. They would not work. Then within a couple of minutes the tractor died and we haven't been able to get it started since. It is below freezing outside here.

ok.... first off - everyone here is thinking - but I WILL ask......

" ran out of gas. "

you mean it ran out of diesel ............

second question - and maybe more important ......... WHAT machine is this ???? It will help those here that will have a great answer if they know this.

HOW did you prime the injectors? Depending on the model .....this is a one bolt process, where as others may be more complicated.

As for the hydraulics ............. pull dipstick, mucky???? betcha you have water in the hydraulics and thus it is frozen .......

shoot us back with a couple of answers and we will help you

OK, sorry yes ran out of diesel. It is a B1750. Open each injector until fuel came out of each. Checking the dipstick now.

Ok, now we are cooking with gas ..... ok - that is supposed to be funny! OK - NOT.

DID you change the filter by chance? IF so - air could be getting in via the O ring. If not - did you have teh throttle wide open? DID you open the bleed valve near the injection pump?

Ok - I would open bleeder valve again.... throttle wide open - allow the fuel to spit, no bubbles at the bleeder valve.

Then proceed to each injector.... loosen, bleed - close. repeat for other 2 - allow MORE fuel to come out than you think you should, force all the air out - it make take time.

Careful on the starter......... allow it to rest and cool off - I know IT is cold outside, but allow that starter to cool off between sessions.

report back

Since it is freezing there (not sure where Evansville is but assume Indiana) I assume you have winter diesel and are sure that it is treated for the current temperatures.

I think you got it running and then it ran out again from some air left in the system (filter?). So let the fuel flow out of the bleeder valve for some time to be sure that the air is gone. Also be sure the bleeder valve is closed well when done since it can let air in if not tight.

Good luck and bleed longer than you think is required.

As Russell mentioned. You probably have a diesel jelling problem, even if you have winterized diesel this year! I know many owners of diesel trucks in this area that are not starting for the first time in their trucks ownership. It was -16 yesterday morning, might have something to do with it.

Need to wait for warmer day, sunshine, or a heated shop.
