Diesel engine shuts off when engaged (hydrostatic drive)?

there is a "seat" switch .... if your are not sitting in the seat with enough......weight.... it will cut off.

bear with me and forgive me.

the post is like going to the doctor and saying doc I don't feel good what's wrong with me? What's the doc gonna do? Ask questions like where don't you feel good what is the history, is it something that just happened all at once or has it been happening for a length of time or?

Same deal.

We don't know what equipment you're asking about. We don't know the conditions of operating. We don't even know what kind of engine you're asking about. Is it a single cylinder harbor freight diesel running a walk behind mower or is it an inline 6 running a big excavator? It makes a difference.

so to answer the question, the answer is, yes.

I'll go along with Hokie on this one but it may not be a weight problem. See if there's anything under the seat which would prevent it from depressing the switch. Make sure that switch is functional. Is the flip up pivot on the seat solid on both ends? If one end is free to move around the seat may not fully depress the switch.

Yes, while the odds are it is the seat switch, you need to post what tractor. I never 'assume' the tractor IS the one in your 'info area' or whatever you call it. Several memebers have LOTS of equipment list there but need help with one specific unit or even a neighbour's totally different tractor.
One thing about the seat switch is that there's a small (1-2 second) delay from say 'standing up' to when the engine shuts down. This is normal. If it cuts out faster, there may be a wiring or other problem. The more info you post, the better we can help.
