Did the dealer give me the wrong hydro filter?

I have a B7100. Previously have used filter number HH660-36060. It's white with blue print and I always keep one of each filter in stock and replace the stock when I use it.

So last time apparently the dealer gave me a K2561-36990. Just opened the familiar orange and blue box now and the filter inside is dark grey with no printing other than a black ink stamp "WF09" - date code?

Messicks' site shows that part fits 67 models, but has been discontinued, replaced by part number HHK20-36990. That part fits 178 models. None of those are a B7100.

Messicks' site says the B7100 uses the HH660-36060 (same as what I have been using) (268 models use this one).

Kubota Canada parts diagram lists 66021-36060 as the correct filter. Suspiciously similar to HH660-36060.

Both filters are almost identical in size, thread, hole pattern, o-ring. The new one is 65grams lighter, but that's probably because the medium is not wet with oil like the old one. I'm sure this one would thread right on. The old one is 50% more expensive on Messicks' web site. So what's the difference? Will I cause harm using this discontinued filter not listed for my machine?

Kubota filter numbers seem to change with the wind. Personally if it fits I would be unconcerned. Certainly would not be worried about causing any harm.

I am inclined to agree with the other guys. But there is no harm in calling the dealer and checking, just to make sure. Plus that way if something does happen, they said you could use it.

Well certainly not at Starbucks. But around here a large double-double is $1.99 at Tims.

Myself, I’d install the one with the part number that matches what the references call for.

I do the same thing as you in terms of stocking extra filters. When I buy them, I take them out of the boxes to make sure they match what I intended to buy. I’m just not very trusting, especially with expensive equipment that I worked hard and long to procure.

One thing I found interesting: Googling the "correct" filter number produce a lot of hits for aftermarket filters "replacement for" the 66021-36060 . All of which were more expensive than the real deal from a Kubota dealer. Up to 3x more expensive!
