So here's the update...
KennyD is correct..my circa 2000 BX2200 had two different hose connectors on FEL and couldn't be connected to complete the hydraulic circuit. Therefore no fluid was flowing and overheating commenced. The oil plug melted partially into the reservoir but caused no major damage...plastic cooled and was caught by filter. A few seals were compromised and had to be replaced, hose connectors were matched and new mower belt too.
Total parts was about $150 but the labor was outrageous. Total bill was near $1500. Guess they had to fish around with the hydraulics. The tractor has worked fine since serviced, but now front drive came uncoupled an I need to fix that. Looks like the pin/spring came off on front drive.
Tractor ownership has it's privileges. I guess.
