Obviously. The question is how long will that $100 blade last slabbing that bar?

A cheap M42 bandsaw blade is about $35 and will wet saw 3.5" rounds till the cows come home. I have been doing it for years.

Retirement has been nice, but one of the things I miss about working where I did was the access to any tool and lots of scrap material. This is the shop where i built the cab for my L3200 back in 2012. The variety of tools available for cutting included the Hydmech (below) , handheld band saws, a small Milwaukee battery cold cut saw and grinders with death wheels. In the wings but unused for that build were the OA torch, plasma cutter and recip saws.

Here's a picture of the Hydmech. It was old (probably out of production) but worked like a charm. We had a few other horizontal band saws and a couple verticals, but they were all kinda puny compared with this one. I think the smaller horizontals were something like 9x16, while the Hydmech was more like 16x19. A lot of the steel pipe and shapes we sliced up had to be loaded by one of the 5T overhead cranes.

Now thats a bandsaw!!

I don't know about that older one but the new ones have automatic feed. Set the part length and count, hit start, and it spits out cuts without any operator intervention.

Ours was a manually operated one. The speed at which the blade dropped was adjusted via a hydraulic needle valve.

N.Y,
So we have gone from $350 bandsaw to $350 cold cut saws both portable and easy to fit in a small shop to $10k plus bandsaws the size of a VW bug. We are starting to sound like tractor salesmen people :D . Love spending other people's money.
