There may not be rebates SCFlip, but there sure is redistribution. A few people dont begin to get back what they put in, while many get much more.

Yeah... it’s been a total waste...what with taxpayer money spent on ..... roads, fire departments, health/science research, economic stability, retirement security, education, water resources, nat’l defense, .... the TOTAL WASTE of it all...

...

Spending tax dollars on the nay-sayers full of themselves and their own philosophies that depend on fellow taxpayers to bail them out of self-destruction. Why don’t you send it BACK if you don’t like it!

Someone needs to give their manure-spreaders a rest.
This thread has nothing to do with "roads, fire departments, health/science research, economic stability, retirement security, education," and other such services that most folks find helpful and/or useful but, rather, Tier IV, Tier V, Tier LXVII, etc., and other such nonsense that just about no one wants.

Seems like there is some misunderstanding going on, or at least for the one program I have first hand understanding of. For solar panel installations mostly completed by Dec 31 2019, you may claim 30% of the cost as a deduction on your federal tax return. Next year it is 26%, and I am not sure of the rest of the phase out schedule. That means you have to be paying quite a bit of tax even when deduction is partly carried forward a year for this to be a "rebate". I don't object to paying taxes when I think about its benefits, but will not complain when I get a refund either.

I think it is not useful to label everyone exploring alternative energy sources a "greenie" as if it is a dirty word. People have varying points of view on what is good in their operation, and what is cost effective. I put some panels in my back pasture. I switched some of my heating to electric heat pumps to reduce my dependence on propane, which was expensive. If I am lucky those solar panels will 0 out my electric bill, and reduce my $3 or 4 thousand dollar a year propane bill by 80% or so. It may take 10 years to pay back my capital outlay. I also think it may be helpful environmentally. The dirt in the part of my back pasture is very sandy, couldn't grow crops on it, and not much good as pasture, dries out in the summer too fast. So for my needs it made sense to do the experiment. We'll see if it works out.

Regarding the electric vehicles, the guy driving the electric semi loved it because he could stop and go in the LA traffic at the same speed as the cars, and wasn't being cut in front of as he tried to accelerate. Is it the right vehicle for long hauls right now? No. An electric compact tractor was being described as suitable for greenhouses. Perfect. Flip's coal rolling Ms are perfect for what he needs, but would be lousy in a greenhouse.

Bottom line: different strokes for different folks.

Straw man much???

Elephants in the room that still haven't really been answered in the EV vs ICE debate:

1. Electric Batteries suck in hot AND cold weather.

2. Using a ICE to charge/recharge/keep charge is an obvious solution which will reduced our CO2 emissions

3. What happens when Government subsidies end on Green energy for the average consumer end? (meaning a true free market will decide what is efficient). The tax payer/voter giveth...the taxper/voter taketh away.

I also think it is ironic that you made a statement about demonizing your enemy. I think demonizing CO2 emmissions and ICE is part of the problem..... Greenies (just easier to type than Environmentalists) want to go from A to Z without entertaining BCDEFG...etc. Why not have both EV and ICE and reduce fossil fuel consumption and thus CO2 emmissions?

I started the thread and I'm neither rich nor powerful. Just an old dirt farmer.

I'd sure like to get back the the subject, Tire 4-5 mandates. That would be very refreshing in as much as this constant back and forth about things none of us have any control over is getting tedious.

I realize everyone has an ax to grind but personally, I don't give a tinkers dam about electrification. I do care about the 4-5 mandates and how it might or might not impact what I do

Not ever going to buy or even consider an EV, don't much care about where my electricity comes from or how it's generated, so long as it's reliable (so I don't have to run my diesel standby genset), which, by the way is also Tier 2) and not cost prohibitive and no one will ever put a solar farm on my ground as long as I'm alive, I consider food production on fertile ground (and the ground around here is the most fertile in the entire state) to be vastly more important

Long as I'm around I'll be driving and farming with an internal combustion engine, just how I roll and I don't expect to see a huge increase in electric tractors, in fact, I don't ever expect to see any at all because they aren't economically viable, just like electric cars aren't All they are around here is a toy for the well to do that want to 'appear' green because right now, it's politically expedient.

Lets regress to the original topic and let the who said we said you said crap about EV's and all that pie in the sky garbage that might come about but not in my lifetime go by the wayside.

Like I said in a past post, everyone has an opinion, problem is, most opinions are like an anus. Everyone has one and most of them stink.

If they chew Redman and drink Crown Royal straight and smoke Marlboro Reds, they might have a chance.

Crown makes good hand sanitizer too.

Don't worry SideCar the "army" is just a little militant group. They will be waving rainbow flags looking for a bathroom gender coach. These are the new educated smarties that think boys can be girls. SMH

CAUTION - flags of all types will really "trigger" them.

Flip, it seems a bit disingenuous to quote me if the remark isn’t directed to YOU.

Meanwhile, on the one hand you keep bitching about emissions controls while on the other hand you continuously proclaim it doesn’t affect YOU and YOU don’t give a damn because you’ve got Tier 2 tractors and that’s all you’ll ever have in this life.

If that’s true, then why do you keep complaining about it?

Because I may have a major engine failure (doubtful) and have to resort to purchasing one and I'm looking at a new diesel pickup truck this summer and that will be a full Tier 4 final (DEF too) vehicle. Not complaining at all, just discussing. Isn't that what a forum is for? Discussion? Ann Landers or 'Ask Abby' is for complaining....:D

Point taken, but if you don’t tell people what you think you know, they might not tell you what they think they know. Kinda how a conversation works.

We have one mouth and two ears (and two eyes). Leading the need to ability to listen to and understand other viewpoints.

Other viewpoints and options should not be wrong by default. Different is not bad, just not the same.

Name calling and broad labeling of other as evil/bad just causes segregation and isolation. No issue is truly black and white. Every idea and viewpoint has good and bad parts.

Progress in society and technology happens when people are willing to work across ideological and viewpoint differences to improvements and a path forward.
