That's simply not true.
I was a commercial electrician for 10+years and worked on thousands of feeders and not a singe one was armored cable/.
Most cables were 750 MCM THHN or 1000 MCM THHN.
That wire can be direct burial or run in conduit.

Your THHN wire is 600V and if in the US was almost certainly on 480V service. It is very different from the meduim voltage cable in question for 12KV feeders.
