That reminded me… Shortly after my father passed, I checked his calendar and saw he had three upcoming medical appointments: dentist, audiologist, and a routine checkup with his PCP. Called them all to cancel. Dentist and audiologist office staff were no problem; very understanding.

Appointment lady at his PCP office, after I simply said he won’t be attending his upcoming appointment due to his recent death, asked if I had a medical power of attorney authorizing me to cancel a medical appointment. Told her I used to, and I know they had a copy on file, but it terminated upon his death so currently, no I did not. She then advised she needed to speak to him and asked if he was available. Told her, no; like I said about 20 seconds ago, he died two days ago. She said HE would need to call to cancel the appointment; she couldn’t speak to me further but would reach out to him to discuss the matter with him and make sure the medical power of attorney they had on file was corrected since I was no longer his power of attorney. Told her if she held a seance to reach out to him, which would be her only shot at talking to him, please ask him where he left the second key to his truck, his key to my tractor, and that thing I have to use to drain and refill the liquid ballast out of the right rear 9N tire that needs a valve stem replaced because I can’t seem to find them and I can’t ask him BECAUSE HE’S DEAD. She said there was no reason to be rude, I should have told her he was dead at the beginning of the conversation. I asked her if there was someone else to speak to who had a brain and wasn’t currently stoned. She said no, she was the only one there. I hung up. Never got a bill for a missed appointment so I guess she eventually figured out dead people are really bad at keeping appointments.
That is simultaneously the saddest, funniest, and most amazing thing I ever read.
The levels of today's stupidity are simply unbelievable.
Your response could not have been better. Well done!

Since my wife got hurt 7 weeks ago I have been making all of her doctor appointments and when I need to call Isay I am her. They don't ever question the voice not sounding like a female. I do have power of attorney for all of her medical facilities, it just makes it easier to say I am her.

In hindsight, it probably would have worked better if I’d told the lady at my father’s PCP office that I was him and I needed to cancel my appointment because I died two days ago. I don’t think she would have questioned that at all.

BTW, hope your wife’s recovery is progressing well.

Back in the 70's I worked with a guy who was showing off his new record player to a couple other co-workers, so the story is second hand. He had it on the stove, and when he went to turn it on, he turned a burner on instead. As far as I know, one of the less-impaired guys rescued it.

He was a real character. He and his uncle (about the same age) liked to go South of the Mason/Dixon to play the ponies. On one particularly disappointing trip, they stopped for gas on the way home. That was when they discovered just how much money they left at the track. Like, all of it. The uncle was driving a company pickup. This is where their luck took a turn for the good. It had lots of company tools that they could leave behind for security while they came home for money to pay for the gas.

That solar clothes dryer was BANNED via BYLAW, in a nearby city years ago. Took YEARS to issue a new bylaw to kill the 1st bylaw....
