D950 Hunts

Just purchased a B7200HSTD. The engine was replaced with a D950 from a generator. The engine runs great, but the RPM hunts up and down. It seems to get better under load. I'm assuming, being a geneerater motor, the govenor and injector pump was electronically controlled by the generator. Any ideas of what I can do to stop it from hunting?

I have owned B7200 for almost 30 years and never had occasion to look but I am pretty sure there is a governor snd linkage on the engine....
