I've also ordered a compression testing kit. It's bound to come in handy with my other diesel vehicles.
It should arrive next week.

Bottle feeding did not help.
I'm thinking it may be to do with the governor and the fork not moving the control lever enough. But I don't know enough about it.
I'm wondering if something got damaged or moved while at the machine shop. I didn't strip all of that down, as I didn't see the need to.

I was informed about a spring that pulls the fork lever to the on position and I can confirm that that is connected.

Still waiting for the compression test kit to arrive.

Just did a compression test and all 3 cylinders are coming out at 420psi. It's only a cheap kit so might be reading lower than the actual pressure, but the main thing is they are all exactly the same.

I had the injector feed and return pipes disconnected and noticed that there is pressure coming out of the injectors inlets, when I put my finger over the hole it was spraying out from under my finger.

This can only mean that compression is getting back through the injectors and filling the lines with air, which was my original thought.

Question now is; do I even bother paying to get the injectors tested only to be told I need to buy new ones. Or do I buy new injectors (I'd rather not at £60 each). Or do I buy new injector nozzles - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jettex-I...773829?hash=item5910bae7c5:g:-UsAAOSwY4NeZjrQ

Well, I'll bump you up in line.

Thing is, you've bottle fed and no change. Think you've even swapped injection pumps? The thing that has stayed the same is the injectors.

Maybe enough hours to go ahead and change them out. Good quality as to not waste time and money. If you can get pop testing for cheap, then you'll have to decide to check that out for pressure and spray pattern.

New nozzles mean that you will need a pop tester machine and an assortment of shims possibly to get them into spec. Also a clean area to disassemble and reassemble the injectors.

Have that feeling that I'm missing something but at least we'll push you up in line.

It's that time of year again where I get time to work on this engine.
I've got the thing running so here's an update for all who might be interested.

I've been installing the pump with the control lever in the wrong position.
As you may know, there is a fork that moves from side to side to control the injector pump. I thought I had it in the correct position within the fork, but on further inspection I had it in the wrong position.
The picture below shows where it should located (7) but maybe because my engine is for a generator with a set RPM, I am presented with the gap next to it (with the red line). To see position (7) I have to manually move the stop lever to the stop position to see it.

with the lever in the red line position, it allows a small amount of diesel through but not enough to run, this explains why it would fire for a second then cut out

Although it's very frustrating and I'm angry with myself for not noticing such a stupid thing, I'm glad that it's working now.

Thank you all who have helped out.
