Cruise Control on L2501

How difficult would it be for me to install cruise control on my L2501? I am fairly handy and as long as I have a manual and the correct tools I can normally make my way through most things.

Do they sell a cruise control kit like they do the 3rd function valve or is this something that is available to dealers only? I remember seeing some older threads on this but for the life of me I can't find them anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never seemed to need a CC since I have the hand throttle to set the RPM's by.

OP might have HST

It isn’t to hard you have to remove the left rear tire ,fender and the middle cover of floor board. No special tools just metric wrenchs and sockets

Not difficult, and can be done without removing fender or wheel. Simple matter of looking & thinking ahead, orientation of parts and sequencing your moves.

Took me about 3.5 hrs on my L3301. That included head scratching time.

Cruise control kit p/n is L8455 (Cruise Control Kit for L2501/L3301/L3901 HST Models only).

Forgive the mega sized pics...I have no idea how to resize them.

The only reason why fender & wheel should be removed is to allow access to the shaft that range (and soon cruise control) levers pivot on.

These first two show factory range shaft & lever. Manual says to remove clip & slide lever off the shaft then remove shaft. I just unscrewed the shaft while lever remained on it.

The new shaft & dual levers are installed as unit. Had to play around a bit to get right orientation so as to be able to attach linkage rod at same time.

These pics may not show correct position for levers (mind is a bit fuzzy on finite details) but convey general idea. Also the shaft has not been screwed in yet in bottom pic.

What really helped (not removing fender/wheel) was the evening prior, with proper libation and cigar, studying instructions with tractor & CC parts in front of me laying out a game plan. Studying before hand entire procedure really helped before going all in next day.

...as for the guy who said "... but since he didn't specify HST I presume it isn't..." Gear tractors don't need or even have cruise control as an Accessory / Option.

For those of you with cruise control, How handy is it? I have 4 acres with one of pasture and three of jungle that I brush hog. I do a lot of grapple and fork work and some bucket. I really don't think I'm missing anything with my HST L2501. Except more lifting power. I think the only reason I would want it is for Land Planing the road. Takes about 8 passes on half a mile. Looks like a fairly easy install and I think the price is less than $250. Much less than the BH77 accessory that I also passed on.

I don't think cruise control is needed all that much, maybe for your road maintence it might help. l just don't mind pressing the pedal. I would want the 3ph adjustable stabilizer before CC. Top and tilt before most other things.

As for more lifting power, have you checked what pressure your hydraulic system is set at? You can add shims to increase it. Also, change the pressure relief to increase lift but do so with caution - don't go over board.

I thought I replied to this thread before but I don’t see my reply so maybe it didn’t take for some reason.

Anyway I have cruise control on my B 2910, and absolutely have never used it or felt the need to use it. ( tried it once and learned what it was). It’s not really cruise control anyway, it’s simply a way to lock the directional pedal at a certain position.

Perhaps it could be useful on a long driveway, do not know. If the lever was in my way I would have removed it. But it is not, so I did not.

For me it is a useless option. But it was standard on the B2910. I would never buy it as an option myself, but everyone has different needs.

It came standard on my L4701. Forgot it was even on my tractor for the most part. I have 7.5 acres of 50/50 wooded/clear land. Remembered to finally use it once when box blading my private road. Think that is the only time I ever used it.
