Have a B2320 tractor that I added a 8000W start/4000W run, taking 12V DC to 120V AC. It runs my tools for about 30 mins then I have to take a break to let it charge back up. Should I get a bigger alternator, Two batteries in parallel, or both ? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

What tools you using? A circular saw drawing 13 amps? or?

Two batteries will increase your run time - what type of batteries? Lead acid or Lithium?

333 amps.... max draw for your converter, and that is not considering inefficiencies. You are not going to get that big an alternator. You need to go a PTO genset and run the tractor.

You would be much better off getting battery operated tools and charging those batteries. ;)

Bigger generator decreases your charging time, bigger battery increases the running time you get (but also increases the charging time with the same generator).

Discharging a lead acid battery in 30 minutes (and fast charging it with high currents then) is kindof "abusing" it, it will decrease its life time.

My suggestion (not knowing what you are running from the converter) would be a PTO driven generator giving you direct 120Vac.

For the amount of money that it will cost to try and make your tractor do you you want it to do, you could buy a small, fairly cheap inverter gas generator that would put out more than enough power.

Buy a couple really good battery powered tools and your good to go, and it will be cheaper.
I have battery powered chain saws because I got tired of gas going bad and gumming up the works.
And FYI: They are awesome.

possible option ?
A neighbor has an 'offshore' 8KW gas powered genny to run his electric chainsaw, drill, skill saw and it works fine. He tows it in a trailer behind him as he goes around his 12 acres. It's easier for him(89) than dealing with 2 strokes and battery powered stuff is too $$$$ for him.

Already have the converter and electric tools, just looking to increase run time. Thanks for your resonse.

Sounds like you need to add more (bigger) batteries. You might be able to mount them in marine (boat) plastic battery boxes to the tractor or some carrier and use a smart battery charger at night to recharge them completely? I don’t think the tractor charge system will be able to keep up with the drain (if it is even running when you use the equipment).

For a while there was this awesome riding lawn mower looking thing that was really a generator that you could drive to where it was needed. It was an awesome idea but there was obviously design problems since they don’t seem to be around any longer.

SEARS had one for their garden tractor. Front mounted genny ,belt powered off the engine. Now 5 decades later the technology has shifted. Inverters are now easy and cheap to make.

In the 70s you could buy a 'black box' that allowed you to run any 'universal motored' tool off your car's alternator.....

I used a computer UPS to run a small polechainsaw one year. Worked very well. battery lasted longer than my arms !
