I've got concrete countertops in the kitchen and I love them. I could even see them for a desk or something. But work bench would be a no-go I think. Need more impact resistance. I'd always be taking chunks out of it.

I poured concrete countertops for my outdoor pizza oven. We like them for that purpose. They are only 1 or 1 1/2” thick tho, and weighed a ton!! Mixed by hand was enough work!
My friend has a concrete plant so I got some fancy chemicals from him (air and plasticizer?) which maybe you’d look into to help it’s strength and whatever qualities those things do!
I’m curious why 4” thick! That’s a heck of a lot of cement! My basement floor is 4” thick!

Sounds like a cool idea.

Are you getting the concrete, block, rebar and angle for free or at a reduced rate? Will
You have to build forms too, right?

I haven’t priced out lumber lately but I built mine out of 2x4s. I have one that’s something like 14’ long and 36” deep, plywood top. Once I ripped the plywood I used the other 12” on a bottom shelf. Another 2 other benches that are 6’ long and 24”deep, I used 2”x8”x1” boards as the top on it. I don’t weld on them but they’ve been used for most other projects and have held up well. Mine are made of untreated pine.

Post a pic if you end up building it.
