I have a L5030 and need to change the hydro/transmission fluid. Is there any reason that I should not use two different brands of hydro fluid? A person could make the argument that oil is oil but I don't want to screw anything up.

Sadly, the only way I know of not to mix fluids is very costly and requires almost double of the fluid you are moving to.

This is pretty well known in the industry so as long as the specs are similar between fluids it shouldn't amount to a problem. If you are radically altering fluid types, you might experience some issues but those will usually show up in the fluids themselves after running them for a while.

So, just as long as the fluids are similar in spec, they should mix okay. Get as much of the old fluid out as you can before introducing the new fluid.

For my gear transmission I just went down to the Big R and got a jug of fluid that claims "Kubota UDT Compatible", at about 1/2 the price of UDT. It appears to work fine.
On HST drives many folks here have said the tranny runs much quieter with UDT or SUDT. That may be a fairly inexpensive way to check - just the cost of the fluid. But you'd have to change it out for UDT/SUDT if it gets noisey.

I'll say this, yes you can mix brands of the same type fluid in most cases but that doesn't mean they will perform the same. Not saying cheap hyd fluid won't work but don't be surprised when it's slow and making extra / different noises this winter.

Well, the question wasn't about economy of types, just if they mix or not. Usually, I upgrade when switching types, not downgrade. I hope most folks are the same...

Thanks to all again! After doing some more research and that my tractor being a HST I really need to stay with Kubota oil. Seems like a HST is really picky about it's oil. Again, Thanks to all the replies!!! :D
