I know there are a ton of guys here that have spent time out of doors. And I was out getting stuff together for a trip to the GWN. I packed my coleman and for some strange reason I thought you know all the heat the thing puts out I wonder if any one has tried to cook or at least heat food over one.
I have at least 2 gas lanterns and a couple propain that work off the 1 pound bottles and 3 or 4 stoves and a couple of the single burner camp stoves, I have picked up at yard sales over the years. Seems kids borrow stuff and forget it has a home! So anybody ever tried ?

Brother Skeets...

They are called LED's.

Save your batteries for light. And save your propane for cooking and heating.

:)

All we use is a Coleman gas lantern when camping in the RV. Never tried to gook on one, I'd imagine the top would get nasty real quick. I have a buddy heater in my deer blind too and a Coleman catalytic (coleman fuel / white gas) backup heater in case I forget to bring along a cylinder (which I refill from my 20 pound RV tanks).

LOL,, naw I am still stone age about the lanterns, something about the hiss and the warm glow of the silk mantels. LEDs are really the way to go but to me they aint got no soul :D

I also prefer the old style mantle lanterns, and I prefer the white gas ones at that over propane. Batteries don't like hot or cold weather, whereas the fuel couldn't care less. I think the light the gas lanterns put off is better, too.

I have a 'dual fuel' mantle lantern and a "Northstar" coleman lantern which I really like.

Not that I'm against modern lighting...I have a very expensive Fenix RC40 2016 edition "flashlight" which ran me $380. I also have Streamlight Stinger rechargeable flashlight which is likewise quite impressive. And a few Mag Lights which feel rugged and seem bright, but really are neither. I still like them though.

Skeets I've got a coleman stove and a lantern that I haven't used in so long I forget how they work. You are welcome to use them. Swing by on your way up north.

Back when I was flush, I bought one of those lanterns that will run on anything, diesel included. Made in Germany. Never used it but someday I will, maybe. It's all polished brass and stainless. Probably should put it on Flea Bay.

Like the good old Coleman. Have the yellow tint globe on it, keeps the bugs away.

What exactly does a $380 flashlight do?
For $380, maybe that a should be an e. Skeets, I've heated a portable fish house on one, but there isn't really any good place to put a pot on one. As luck would have it, Coleman makes cookstoves that run on the same fuel.

Skeets, take a look at this web page. Many years ago when I was in the Army we had something similar to this that attached to gas lanterns but I can't seem to find any item like that now for gas lanterns. However, here is one that attaches to kerosene lanterns. Check this out. let me know what you think. BTW, I use kerosene lanterns all the time. They are great for that softer light that they provide. Also, I have purchased from this site many times and they always have been great. Customer service is outstanding!

This is a great store. I have been there several times, good people and interesting things to buy. It also has pretty good food. Plan on spending several hours shopping if you get a chance to go.

From the limited info that I could find, it looks like you are only going to get around 2700 btu’s Out of the Coleman lantern. Cooking will be a long slow affair. Plus, having a pot on top is going to make it top heavy, a recipe for fun if you aren’t careful. I have one of their little backpack stoves that works great. I’m with you, I love the soft hiss and gentle light of a lantern at the end of the day.
