Does anyone know for the safety switch on the clutch of an L 3800 hydrostatic if continuity would go back to the tractor as well and the switch I hope that makes sense to everyone on the switch side. I have continuity, but I have continuity on the other side, going back to the tractor is what I’m trying to figure out so I know my switch is bad but I’m wondering if there’s a broken wire somewhere along the line as well cause I don’t have continuity there either

There should only be continuity between the 2 terminals of the switch when the switch is depressed.

You question is not worded very well.
You measure continuity with a meter in Ohms from one point to another.
But do it with the battery disconnected.

I am not sure what you are really asking so will try to answer in detail. Please don’t read through if I am missing the question totally.

Yes a wire will show continuity from end to end (unless it has a break in the middle).

But there may be other safety switches or electrical boxes that are open that break the continuity.

For example I have an old L185 and the only safety switch is the clutch safety switch. A wire (black with white stripe) runs from the starter solenoid to the safety switch, the other side of the switch has a separate wire (but still a black with white stripe wire) that runs to the starter switch. If I remove the safety switch and measure from the starter switch to the solenoid wire it would be open (no continuity). But move from the solenoid end to the wire ends near the clutch and there will be one still open and one should have continuity.

If there is continuity on both wires and the clutch safety switch is working properly then measure from key switch to solenoid wire ends would show open until the clutch pedal is pressed down (activate the switch) and then there is continuity end to end.

But on a more modern tractor there is the same wire from the key to the solenoid with a clutch safety switch and a seat switch and a PTO switch or possibly a control computer involved. Without a wiring diagram there is no way to know how it would operate and what the continuity would be. But each wire end to end sh show continuity.

K ya sorry guys my tractor is dead. The only thing that happens when you try to start it is the battery light and I think it’s the hydraulic pressure light comes on the dash I’m trying to find which safety switch isn’t working because that’s the only thing that makes sense for that problem to existit in my mind, I believe it’s the clutch safety switch that is shot I have removed the switch and placed jumpers on the terminal. It’s a two wire switch. I still have nothing. Yes I know there could be another switch somewhere shot, but I’ve checked them all. There’s nothing else wrong so that tells me there’s a wire broken somewhere along that clutch safety switch wire ( wires cause theres two wires)

A test light and the WSM with a wiring diagram will be your greatest friend.
Have you check all the fuses?
Because I do believe on your unit there will be a start relay and that can also cause all your issues.

Curious, so I downloaded the WSM as TOH posted...wiring diagram is on page 290,near the back.
It appears power goes from battery-->key switch-->5A fuse-->starter relay-->PTO switch-->range switch--> earth(aka ground )
There is no 'clutch' on that HST, but in order to start the tractor the 'range' lever must be in neutral AND the PTO 'off'. If either of these switches is 'open', you cannot start the tractor.

Well i can confidently say there is a clutch switch But yes its not a true clutch its a pedal you have to push in to start the tractor and I have checked everything still no luck so I’m thinking there’s a wire broke somewhere in the loom that really sucks cause it’s put together so nice and neat,
and tidy I am most definitely not neat and tidy when putting stuff back together

Thank you for letting me know. It’s on page 290. I couldn’t find the diagram for a bit there, but I don’t think that’s my tractor either cause it says it has a horn, trailer connect, rear lights, license plate lights, brake lights, a lot of lights I don’t have lights just the two on the hood I have looked on the plate on the side of the tractor on the frame. It says L 3800 D then the serial number I don’t know if that makes a difference does it?

Why dont you test the wiring with a meter or lamp 🤔

One side of clutch switch goes to ground, one side to HST switch - all part of Operator Present circuit on HST machine. Our confusion is that the above is not true for a D with manual transmission.

I think it’s the hydraulic pressure light comes on the dash
Never heard of a hydraulic pressure light on a stock L3800. Perhaps an add-on for something else, or misidentification?

I believe it’s the clutch safety switch that is shot I have removed the switch and placed jumpers on the terminal. It’s a two wire switch
Easy to check. Disconnect at the connector near the switch. Set meter to continuity and clip leads to pins in connector. Pressing the switch button or moving pedal up and down will determine continuity.

In the case of Operator Present, there are differences between HST and manual transmission. These are diagrammed in the Electrical section of the Workshop Manual (WSM) for the L3200 and L3800 models.

Members will be happy to help. Right now some information is conflicting and gives pause to diagnosis.

glad it's 'fixed' ! you may find a 'hidden' grease fitting for the pedal under the mat, if not ,spray some 'rust check' (light, kinda sticky oil' where the pedal rotates on the shaft......

FYI: The L3800 on Kubota books is completely wrong for the US version of that tractor, it's for the EU version, and there is a lot of differences especially the wiring.
